metal slug record? not!

OK, I stumbled across a site on which they claim to have actually done some world record competitions for arcade game scores. Apparently they have someone who holds a record in Metal Slug. At a mere 378,640 points. I can get a cool million without even trying, and I'm not that hot of a player.

Somebody who lives in the area, go over there and show them some REAL slugging. Please. Any Neo fan with half a brain could beat that high score, I'm sure.

Are you aware of the 1000 point per shot trick with the Metal Slug?

If you hit an enemy with the main cannon at basically the longest distance the shell will go you get more points.

Also, you need to MILK the areas like crazy. Knife everyone and everything and keep knifing until time almost runs out.

IIRC, the maximum obtainable score is around 280,000 in MS1 Mission 1.

Just read through this thread, it gets good about halfway down the first page when GEMANT reveals the secret of MS high scores: http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63862

I assume you're getting all the hostages too?

I believe level one also has an item with a random point value. Probably a teddy bear. I think if you're lucky you get 5,000?

Yeah reading what GEMANT posts about anything Metal Slug is guaranteed to add several hundred thousand points to your score almost instantly.

Haha I just fired up MS1.

I'm SO rusty.

I got to Mission 3 on 1 credit.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try them out. I always get the hosties and knife only. So far...my high is just under 700k.

Damn, I might have to dig the Wii out of the closet, plug it in and play some Metal Slug with my Wii stick...
