DC SNK ports...Good?

I am considering getting a DC to play the expensive SNK ports on. DC hardware is relatively cheap on the bay and games are inexpensive. I recently purchased a used ps2 to play gta san andreas and had heard that the ps2 also has some good ported snk games. Upon further looking, alot of the games are imports for the ps2 such as gmotw and I would have to get some type of non soldering boot method as I have done very little soldering and nobody close will do it. But for probably the price of a ps2 import adapter and a game I could buy a used DC and a few games.
Just curious as to what you guys thought.

Thanks in advance

A port will always have its weird inconsistensies with the original source material. That being said the port of Mark of the Wolves is very respectable. The KOFs are largely spot on and are very playable even if they aren't perfect. For me the Last Blade 2 port was a letdown. It is censored and just doesn't seem right. Even so, if it is your only option go for it. The xbox and Ps2 also have some ports, namely metal slugs but you can also get some KOFs and SvC Chaos. Again, none of them are perfect, but if it is your only option go for it.

O yeah, if you haven't played KOF 11 yet get it for the PS2. I can't recomend it highly enough.

Did they fix the end-of-level sound BGM glitch with Slug 4 in the Anthology pack for PS2?

Bah, what am I asking?

Why fix that one error when the collection and just add others?

What alternate universe do I live in to expect QC from SNKP?

Doubt they fixed anything. The anthology is a great deal .... but it just didn't do it for me. I guess having most of the originals spoiled me. I really only bought it to play MS 6. Really tough game by the way.

I have the slug anthology for wii and a buddy of mine has it for the ps2. Last time we played, I noticed that there was noticeable lag on the ps2 version. I dunno if it was his ps2, controller or what. On the wii I wasn't able to tell any lag. Most people don't seem to like how the wii controllers work w/slug, but I rather like it. I had to play around with the diff controller combinations before I found the one that I liked and quite honestly imho it works just as good if not better than a joystick.

There is indeed some lag on the PS2 MS anthology. It doesn't break the game but it does feel a bit weird.

I much prefer the ps2 snk ports than those on DC. Garou motw is shitty on DC and excellent on ps2, that pretty much seals the deal. All you need is boot disc and an unmodded ps2, not expensive.

I still rate KoF2k1 DC as one of the best SNK ports ever released for a newer system, same goes (to some extend) for KoF2k2. However, if you don't already have a DC, buying one + the game will be more expensive than getting the (equally good) PS2 versions.

The other DC ports are good as well, with the exception of MotW that has several lag/input timing problems. Here the PS2 version is clearly superior.

I am getting some bad vibes for MOTW on the DC. I admit it was a long time ago since i played it, it was before i had played it on the Geo, and it was really before I got into the whole scene. So my memory and perspective on it may be skewed. I will have to go back and check it out.

I can do the Icarus Thrust on the DC port all day long, yet is hard to pull of in the real deal, same goes for the PS2 port. MOTW on the DC isn't horrible, but the PS2 port is so damn nice is hard to go back to the DC.

KOF 2001 awsome beyond belief, plus it has some old stages for shenanigans and that's allways cool with me. KOF 2001 on gameplay alone eats for breakfast most KOF's out there except for XI, this you could call a "manic" fighter.

Yup, steer clear of MOTW DC - the only good thing about it is the original release's cover art and packaging.

j_heiger,

taken for itself, MotW DC is a great fighter that will give casual gamers a lot of bang for the buck. However, if you know/have played the Neo original a lot and consider yourself an above-average fighter player, the DC version will feel kinda weird and laggy. There is this phenomenon I like to call "micro slowdowns" that makes DMs easier to pull off but at the same time has a negative impact on Just Defends and followups. There also are sound lags but that's not really a huge issue IMO, more like an annoyance.

For the record, I've played MotW DC for months when it was new, same goes for the Neo original and PS2 release. For me, the PS2 port is the definitive version.

There are more PS2 ports released rather than a DC in JP.
also, there are more choice of joysticks on PS2 rather than DC, unless you choose to use a PS/SS controllers convertor.
And the PS2 SNK collection series now comes to Vol. 11, it is still planning to have more!

The DC still kicks ass and has key port titles that will never show up on the PS2, but I love both equally.
