actually from the look of it, thats not actually a MAS machine. I first noticed when they said the make it themselves and are located in Colorado. MAS opperates out of California. Then I noticed that nowhere in the auction does it say MAS at all (except that they accept MAStercard).

Here's the real Mas super nova:
http://www.massystems.com/

looks like $300 plus shipping for a custom made one. I've order dreamcast joysticks from them before, placed the order over the telephone, scheduled a time for pickup but they weren't there when we had arranged, so they shipped them to me for free. I'd imagine shipping is pretty expensive, especially with 2 joys and the system. I haven't heard of anybody doing business with MAS for years, so I don't know if they are still making freshies.

I'd highly recommend http://www.multimods.com/ but from what I last heard, Dean was having some trouble shipping on time, so I have no clue if he has time to build new projects. The two or 3 transactions I've had with him have been excellent by every stretch of the word. I've never played supergun's built by either, but it would seems that Dean's are of much higher quality build, though keep in mind joysticks are not included in his prices.

That price is too high. I sold one for $180 shipped that had more features than that. It doesn't even have an audio attenuation circuit.

i know the supergun i built for cost ended up reselling here for quite a bit, with no sticks. composite/svid jrok, 2 db15 joystick ports, rgb pots, no audio attenuation, coin and service button, and one of them ault psus.

2 sticks that look to be of pretty good quality along with the supergun, 3-350 doesnt seem like too much. if you want to save money, make it yourself. then youll find out why they cost what they do. its not the parts. the labor is tedious.

Personally... if I were selling that supergun, I wouldn't sell either joystick for less than $60 a pop.

So $300 less $120 leaves $180. Depending on the encoder, if it's a jrok or if it's a custom circuit, that's another $70 or so. Arcade power supply is about $20, Jamma Harness is about $20. So for the remaining build materials and labor of $70. To me, mind you, that sounds reasonable.

Now bear in mind that you and me have the tools to make the gun. What if you don't have a router? That moulding becomes a new fun hot glue project. Don't have a 1 1/8" step drill bit? You might have a hole saw that's close. If not, then what?

What I'm getting at is, as far as I'm concerned, assuming the supergun is of a good quality (for all I know the underside is covered in mold, all the springs are broken and the audio is a high pitched squeel), it's not a bad price. Parts and labor add up.

Is it a bargain? No. Can you find them cheaper? Yes. Can you build them cheaper? Absolutely.

Is the price an "outrage"? No.

MAS sucks. My friend has one and the pots are INSIDE. No test button, attenuation circuit, no nothing but a harness, PSU, speaker and video encoder. Plus the fucking harness doesnt have much slack on it. Playing a SFII PCB with the kick harness that barely makes it.

I can source a Sigma Raijin or a Sigma AV7000/9000TB combo if you want. These are considered the best commercially available super guns. Sturdy, high quality, output Composite/S-Video, or RGB in NTSC format, Stereo/Mono switch, etc. etc. The stick is made of Seimitsu parts.
They are not cheap though. You're looking at the neighborhood of $500 - $520 to have one paid for and shipped depending on your location. That's assuming $100 or so for shipping.

They rock though, I can tell you that.

For that much you might as well have a custom made one made for you with features you actually want.

Not if you care about quality. If you want it in a Tupperware container, cool. Sigma's are the cat's Meow though. My first one is still being used by a friend some 5 years after purchase, with heavy use and not a single issue. Overkill? Maybe. But for some, time is money. It's cheaper for me to actually buy an expensive one than make one.

D-Lite AKA Multimods is a total dead-end.

I wonder when that happened?

I bought an A/V modded Duo-R with controllers modded for extra length, and it works perfectly. It took him awhile to mod the controllers so he threw in something extra. It was a pleasant experience.

In regards to MAS (and perhaps MAS knockoffs) - as I've played many of their systems and have seen as many sales (as anyone else here on the boards) - buy a used one of their systems. These things are made in some guy's basement. Parts have changed over the years and so has his effort. Build quality varies, so go with a used one from someone you trust, so you can be sure it works rather than taking a crapshoot. I've bought a couple MAS units in the past and this advice has yielded me some good setups and avoided a couple bogus deals.

Otherwise, buy a custom unit from a member on these boards. :)

The sticks are the highlight of the MAS gun...

If it's your cup of tea, get a gun made out of a Candy CP.

a supergun is kind of a rare thing. If you want to save money and have it do what you want it to do, then your best option is just to build it yourself. If you're going to flat out buy one then expect it to either not do what you want or to cost some insane amount of money.
