Which Neo games did you love then, but don't now?

You know, due to graphics/gameplay that just didn't age gracefully, or your own naivete as a kid...

Just curious since I have been giving my brother-in-law shit about sweating Ninja Combat as a pre-teen (he doesn't know what he was thinking, he says).

One day it's just gonna show up in my 4-slot so I can see the look on his face. :lolz:

I don't think I've ever been 'ashamed' because I liked a game. Hell I loved playing brick out on an old Apple computer. Hell I love playing brickout now.

I think "ashamed" may have been a poor choice of words...

More like, which games didn't withstand the test of time so well and now you have no idea how you fed them so many quarters :)

...I actually changed the title and OP a bit to reflect the above.

A game I used to love in the arcades way back when was Crossed Swords.

While I think the graphics have held up pretty well I gotta say having it on the Neo with unlimited continues really kills it. It's just too repetitive and boring after 15-20 minutes, something I wouldn't have realized as a kid with just a few quarters.

Maybe I should give it another shot in the near future.

^ A good list of bad games.

I have a longer list of games that I thought were blah till I put some time into them.

Most recently was Fatal Fury: First Contact for the NGPC (I know it's not AES/MVS, but I play all things neo). I thought this game was utter crap for the past few years that I've owned multiple copies of this game (it seems like everyone into the NGP ends up with several FF:FC carts for some reason...). I have been playing the hell out of this game for the past few weeks now and have been thoroughly amused with it. I've been in situations where I have 10 - 20 minutes to kill in several blocks throughout the day and this has been a fun little fighter to pass the time.
I played it when I first got it, unlocked Leo and Alfred and then just put the game down. Glad I picked it back up.

I use to love those Neo & Geo quiz games, I'd never play them now. Japanese quiz games aren't all that fun when you don't understand what's going on.

I still love Burning Fight. That was a hard to play when small. I like the bombs, like to pick up the bottles and long sticks to fight. You can even knock the diver off the motorcycle. that was nice.

I'm going to take some heat for this...

Samurai Shodown 2

I prefer it when I'm in a setting where I'm playing against another human, but since that hasn't happened in 5 years, I find myself playing Last Blade 1,2 KOF 98 and SS3.

SS2 was well balanced, but when you're playing the computer, it doesn't really matter...and I've always preferred the art from 3, and the Last Blade series.

It's not that I ever decided it was BAD ... I just realized while reading this thread that I haven't installed it in years.

This is an excellent question!!! I'm gonna have to think hard on this.

Here's the deal though; I'm actually all reversed about the Neo. When I just got the console it came with SSII, no probelm there SSII is a testament to fun fighting games...I also got Nam '75 and I was kind of turned off by the whole thing, same thing happen with the following:

Neo Turf Masters
Ghost Pilots
Top PLayers Golf
and you get the idea, but now is different, I can't get enough of Nam '75, NTM, and so on, I dunno what it is, but let's call it dedication if the word fits.

Edit: BTW Ninja Combat is nuts! Then and now!

Well, I'd have to say probably Alpha Mission II, really was quite impressed by it in arcades and such, but kinda dissapointing in the long run. Probably because in the arcade I never brought enough quarters to get to the parts of the game that get repedetive. And because the arcade owner knew the game was getting old and made all the settings really easy for the younger kids since he wan't making alot of money. You know, a kid attractor, but not too hot of a game. Course I was an "old" kid but I got no allowance, so I played the cheap games set on easy mode.

EDIT: still a sweet game, but mostly I play for a while and when it gets hard (and repetitive) I'll often just let myself get killed off and start over, which I think can be pretty fun for an evening with nothing going on. Also, it is the only vertically scrolling shooter on the Neo with a space theme, and I prefer vert shmups over horizontal ones.
