I don't fully understand this:

Some people will only collect a cart-based arcade motherboard and related cartridges. If there is a game they want that is only available in a dedicated PCB format, often times they will not buy it.

Certainly storing PCBs isn't an issue because you have to store the carts and motherboards, and frankly, storing PCBs is not that difficult.

I will chime in and say that PCB's are more of a raw form of collecting. Cart's are traditional and easier to swallow when viewing a build-up in a room.

Just go ahead and admit that you're calling out Bibliophile on this.

While I'm at it, I'll go ahead and share your other piece of advice: The little boxes at uline.com are very handy for storing PCBs.

PCB's I find are a hell of a lot more interesting than carts, just PCB's usually are a little more expensive and sometimes harder to find.

Could be a space issue. Storing 20 MVS carts takes far less room than storing 20 JAMMA PCBs.

CPS2 carts are way bigger than most PCBs.

Biblio isn't the only one who employs this style of collecting

all carts have pcbs inside them, so nobody who collects carts does not collect pcb's.

sometimes people can be pretty particular in what they want. I don't understand this in particular either, but I know I can be certain ways about other things.

Why does anyone collect anything? Why do I collect games from Working Designs even though I only really like about half of them? Why? Why?

People are fucked in the head.

Oh yea, mainman, that collection is wicked.

Thanks guys

This isn't something I bought all at once, its built up over a 7 year span. What you see is after I down sized mainly cps2 on these forums, what you see is all the cps 2 boards I have left.

Why do I collect? I don't know, why do people collect baseball cards and etc. I guess because in my case it keeps me occupied.

LOL, Jesterzzn. You collect working designs too. You got to have both lunar complete with official guide and the same with arc the lad collection.:smirk:

haha my original question wasn't asking why people collect arcade games, it's why some arcade collectors only collect arcade boards if they are wrapped in plastic and have some text on it.

I'm not following you 68k, people will collect what they want no matter the format. If anything comes into consideration its cost and avaliablity. You don't see boat load of cave collectors here as I imagine its a cost issue and not a format issue.

The MVS and CPS 2 are so mainstream they are like the starting point for any collector thats why these platforms are discussed about the most. Lets not forget they are more affordable and avaliable too.

I think what mainman is trying to say is that why some people only collect Magic the Gathering cards and not Pokemon cards is the same reason why others collect only MVS and not PCBs. Sure they're the same type of thing (arcade games), but some like to have ALL of one type or system. PCBs are always their own system, and there's thousands of variations out there. I guess some people feel like their collection is better with a unified format instead of a bunch of random stuff (like my wall).

True, you can not own every pcb ever released but it is possible to collect every mvs cart officially released in theory meaning if you have deep enough pocket to bring it home stretch.

Damn it's about fucking time you put them on shevles. Do you still have the pic of them all over the floor?

Damn, look at that space saving man. So what CPS2 do you NOT have? IIRC you just completed your collection?

Yeap I can actually walk around that room now.

Just Rockman : The Power Battle, that one escapes me. Julius said he tracked down one for me but I heard that line before.

Maybe a cps 1 conversion but I don't think anyone even knows this obscure board even exist to fab a cps 2 boot. The only people who have unencrypted roms is the mame team.

Grey, Green and Blue boards that julius sell are always usually legit, I never got a boot. On the other hand orange boards especially MVC are guaranteed to be boot, never got a legit orange board from him, but I don't blame him he can't tell the difference and the board cost practically nothing anyway.

Why do we collect? Why collect only one thing and not the other? Why must everything collected be mint, complete, in the box, have all the original artwork, inserts, stickers, and "rare" figurine? Why do we let the collection become so vastly large that is starts to take over a room, and then a house, and then a mini-storage locker?
Why do we have a cranial meltdown and decide to sell the whole lot, just to go and buy it back again?
