Finally finished my supergun.

Wired up to two DB 25's, I made a blind buy and got some IDC DB25's instead of the stock standard solder (don't have a soldering iron) connectors, I think they're meant for ribbon cables but I made it work with the wires coming from the JAMMA harness and a small flathead screwdriver.

Front yellow button is a test button. Rear red and yellow RCA jacks are for video (again I did this on the cheap) R,G,B and SYNC for my monitor.

The red and black connectors on the back are used for sound, It's just Speak - and + plus common GND. CPS2/MVS can both be used straight with the monitor due to headphone jacks etc. Anything else can be done via the rear connection but it will be straight to a speaker.

Absolutely no solder has been used, only heatshrink, electrical tape and superglue. Powers on and voltages are all correct at the harness. Only my modded HRAP3 to wire up and I'm pretty much done. Just need a board and to repair the anode cup on my monitor and away we go.

Kudos! Very nice indeed.

If you don't mind a slice of advice... make sure you wire up the test and service switches.
You may never need 'em, but it's a good idea to have 'em.

Looks good, though I wonder how you actually wired the thing up without solder. I imagine you are going to run into issues due to that.

Ahh! i forgot to mention, the test and service switches are wired, All I need to do is switch the yellow buttons wires around for the service switch if I need to use it. Yeah its annoying but I figure I won't use them often anyway.

@madman,

Yeah I should have used solder, I mean I can later on but it powers on fine. I don't know about video yet but I've stripped the wires long enough to wrap around the points and then I've sort of tied it on so it's def making good contact.

If it blows up I'll be thinking of you. :tickled:

Anything that wasn't tight had heatshrink attached to keep it in place. or glue.

Without solder you'll definitely have problems down the road. With a supergun that looks as clean as that one, I would take the extra time to put a touch of solder on the connections.

Same here, I would say good job but the only thing preventing me from saying it is the lack of solder. Other than that it looks good and perfectly catered for your use.

Kinda almost like blasphemy mentioning no solder!

Though I really do understand where you guys are coming from. If I had a soldering iron I would have soldered but I guess I was being a little impatient and no doubt It will show in its long term performance.

I think I will eventually solder, the only thing I can think of is soldering the mains wires that go from the plug to the PSU. the adaptor side should be soldered but they're on pretty damn tight and insulated. Video might be a concern, but we'll see when I get my Neo.

Thanks for the constructive criticism though.

that's crazy. It looks good from the outside. Just leave it on the shelf and IMO, don't ever try and ship it.

Hahaha I completely understand. For what it's worth, my handywork shouldnt be passed onto someone else. God no.

Though to be honest, it works so I'm not complaining.

Nice enclosure. Very slick. And no solder is quite a feat. Hey, if it runs, go with it.:buttrock:

Exactly what I thought. Seriously as long as it makes sufficient contact and is kept in place what could go wrong? It's stationary, there wont be fingers going in touching mains wires and shit.

The only problems that might occur is power wiring but those wires are tied on damn tight and kept in place with heatshrink. Sound doesnt matter and video should work anyway. I mean the ends of the connector arent soldered to the tv so the difference is?

I've wired Naomi 2's with GD drives without solder and had many hours of fun without a hitch. Sue me.

The difference is connectors have male/female shapes that are meant to connect together without solder. It's not like you just lay a bare wire on top of a piece of metal to connect video outputs to your tv.

It looks like you spent some time and a little money making that thing, why not spend $15 on a soldering iron to make sure that it functions properly?

I can't justify not using solder, I really can't. If I could get an iron for that cheap I would have already.

There's one for $12.95 on the website that you said you got the enclosure from. It's cheaper than the enclosure.

$8.99

I've used this since I started soldering. Same iron too....got a new tip a while back for $3.

Did you electrical tape some fans in there? Superglue and tape will become a mess if you don't get some really solid ventalation in there. Especially with that internal psu. Again, not trying to nit-pick, cool that it works etc etc, but that could actually become an issue.

Well the only glue used was for keeping the power adaptor in. That's it. Other than that it's just heatshrink for the wires and some electrical tape to keep the controller wires in place.

Allright I'll be honest, I could'nt be bothered with the soldering iron. I can barely solder wires.

Seriously though, you should have a fan or some sort of ventalation for a metal/plastic enclosure with an internal psu.

I have realised this, I will plan on fitting atleast some ventalation holes for the PSU.

It doesn't need a fan but there's so much wiring in this thing a fan wouldnt really fit very well.

Trust me, it needs a fan. Unless you only plan on playing for 10 minutes at a time.
