**oldpost**
I ran into a few people today who half ruffled my feathers. Honestly, part of it was I wasn't prepared to defend the point so I think my argument was a little lacking. Their premise was essentially:

"If an arcade game is any good, it'll be ported to a console."

All I had handy was Neo Super Dodgeball, Progear and AvP for the CPS2.

Can anyone help arm me here?

AVP was ported to SNES and Atari Jag.

Cave shooters aren't ported often and neither are some of the later Raizing shooters.

FYI, the Jaguar version has nothing to do with the Capcom beat 'em up: it's a first-person shooter.

Double FYI the SNES AvP is a completely different game as well. It just has the same name.

Red Earth/Warzard
Cannon Dancer/Osman

those both should be conclusive to end any discussion in my opinion.

Don't get flustered.

Many great arcade games couldn't be ported... whether it be the type of cabinet they were in (special controls, vert monitor, resolution) or the fact that JAMMA games could be 3 buttons but systems prior to SNES/Genesis had 2 buttons.

Most SNES/Genesis ports weren't great to begin with (or made into a completely different game, a la AvP). Who cares if it's a bad port? Flip it around and ask how many games had a good port.

I'm guessing, snobs they may claim to be, they have never even heard of most of the great arcade games that never got ported.

Srry, they all may be arcade games, but they run on so many different types of hardware. The question is almost like "why didn't the Sega System 16 game get ported to the Neo Geo MVS?"

Yeah. You're probably right. Again, I think I became frustrated only because I was ill prepared to defend the point. Having time to think about it, and thanks to you guys, there are a ton of games worth owning the pcb for.

I have to agree as well. The gunblade/machine gun toting games are hella fun. Also, Lost World by Sega was awesome too.

Battle Circuit CPS2
Bucky O'Hare JAMMA
Demon Front PGM
GunBarich JAMMA Psikyo SH2
Storm Blade JAMMA Visco SSV

Also, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is CPS 1.5/Qsound, not CPS2.

Hate to repeat some, and sorry if these already have ports.

The Simpsons
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade
Virtua Cop 3
Let's Go! Jungle
Hyperdrive
The Grid
Martial Masters
The Gladiator
Vs. Duck Hunt (Check out my videos on my site)
Solar Assault
Star Castle (?)

And I still want an arcade perfect port of Donkey Kong. I'm sick of Nintendo giving us the half assed NES version. I want all of the sounds and all of the stages.

@Yuckmud: I didn't know about VS. Duck Hunt (and shooting the dog). At first I was thinking, "You sick bastard". Then I remembered "Oh, yeah, when you were a kid you always tried to shoot the dog in the NES version at the beginning of each level just for kicks".

Funny, but not porting it in the original way actually heightened the desire to shoot him.

Edit: On topic (figured I actually contribute something):

Seriously, there are tons of good games or games people would have loved for consoles...

Golden Axe 2: Revenge of Death Adder... definitely the best in the series, too.
Haunted Castle (the Castlevania arcade game)
Super Contra
SegaSonic
Sonic the Fighters
Mario Kart GP (the Namco crossover)

Other lesser known greats:

(Osman should be under the platform/sidescroller section)
Geo Storm
The Outfoxies
The Karate Tournament
Aurail
Gundhara
Gamshara
Outzone
Do we really consider any Neo Geo Home games ports (especially compared to the general public's knowledge)... Ninja Masters, Zupapa, NitD, (Shock Troopers, never with an NGH "port" finally got a PS2 port...)

The list goes on.

I thought the Mario Kart GP games sucked. Maybe if they had the tracks and not the horrible controls I'd try it.

I can't believe I forgot Death=Adder. That game was tons of fun. I still remember the arcade on the Jersey shore that used to have it. I had to pick the kid with the pitchfork and saved all my magic so I could grow a tomato plant...woo!

Sonic the Fighters DID come out in one of the PS2/GCN Sonic collections, never got around to buy it, but I did play the arcade version at Gameworks in Vegas.

SegaSonic would be awesome to play, but I don't know how you'd work the controls since it was a trackball game.
