I've had my NeoCD for awhile now (Toploader), and I still absolutely love it. I'm thinking of getting a CDZ, though. Now I've read all the posts about the differences and variations of opinions of the speed difference, so I'm not gonna ask that. What I can't seem to find out is, what kind of output options does it have? Is it just standard A/V? Or does it have S-Video like the toploader?

Same as the toploader, composite and s-video. You can mod either one for component.

Awesome, that just made up my mind. the load times never bothered me enough to think about getting one, but I recently started playing The Last Blade... the rest writes itself.

How would I get/do a Component mod on either system?

Get a neobitz component encoder, but for the price you might as well upgrade to an MVS and do the component mod to that. No load times.

Hmmm.. So I see. Ideally I'd love to just grab an MVS cab and mod it, of course, but either way it's enough beyond my means that I can certainly just deal with S-video and not re-buying all my games as carts ;) One day though, one day...

Danthor: Another option is to get a RGB-Component transcoder. There's a thread up in the tech section that talks about it. Xian prefers to mod the consoles, I prefer to use the transcoder and buy RGB cables, but they get the same results.

The Neo CD looks fantastic in component, by the way. I'm guessing it has a really strong RGB signal.

Wow, I just took a look, and I think that option looks much more like something I'd like to do. I was never big on modding systems for any reason, but when you want the best possible anything from it.. you fight with yourself sometimes. *laughs* Thanks for pointing me in that direction!

Also, while I'm thinking about it, is there anyone who's used both the AES joystick, and the neo CD Pro controller joystick? Any notable difference? I see just looking at it the stick looks a -bit different- and the buttons are tilted a -bit- differently. My roomate has an AES, but he hates the stick that came with it (Wierd, I know. I love it. Not arguing since he gave it to me for one of my Neo CD pads!) He's thinking for some reason the pro stick will be several times more comfy than the normal stick, but I'm not so sure.

The Pro stick has its good and bad points. The buttons are alot less squeeky than the original. But in my opinion it is hard to hold it steady in your lap while playing fighting games. So it is tilting this way and that while you try to execute moves. and the stick itself is a bit too short also. Its kinda like a joystick/pad hybrid that does about nothing right. All that said, its not all bad.

Yea like heiger said, the pro stick is harder to stabilize on your lap. Personally I like the feel of the pro stick better (has more of a solid feel on the joystick), and what I do is I have a big pillow I put on my lap so I can kind of "squish" the controller into it so it doesn't move while I play.

The Pro stick has the same clicking feel of the directions, but the stick is much shorter, so it's less like the arcade, if that's what you're used to. The main problem is the buttons don't push in quite as easily. You have to push them down slightly farther, making it more difficult to press the buttons rapidly. The buttons are also definitely much less arcade-like than the original stick.

I know its blasphemy to say, but i actually like the buttons on the pro stick better because they don't squeek like my regular stick does. Does anyone else have that problem with games like metal slug or blazing star where you are mashing one button constantly??

It's very common. I ended up opening one of mine up where the A button wasn't functioning reliably anymore, and I swapped the junk for it to the D button, as well as cleaned up all the insides. All the buttons seem to work fine again now.

Cool, I can't imagine the crap I would find if i opened up one of my joysticks. Probably needs a good cleaning.
