F3: Arkanoid's Revenge Question

I'm thinking of picking up a copy for my buddy as a gift (he loves arkanoid) and doing a consolized F3. Just thinking at this point, mind.

Does it require the rotary dial or can you use a joystick (I know there's a jumper you can set on the motherboard)?

If he likes Arkanoid.. I doubt he will like it with a stick.

Playing Arkanoid with a stick is like eating a NY pizza with a spork.

Works pretty good with the stick when I had the game. He will love it if he's an arkanoid fan, trust me. Especially the co-op mode. Me and my girl had to keep playing it to finish the game one night. Man that's a lot of balls for 2p mode.
