Is it Safe? Neotropolis - Sending your AES to Them for Modification

Hi,

Neotropolis (http://www.neotropolis.net/) is advertising on its web site that existing owners of Neo Geo AES Systems can send in their systems to them and they will modify them. That statement can be found here on their web site;
http://www.neotropolis.net/33401.html

Has anyone on this forum used this service before? Is it 100% safe and reliable?

What is the procedure that needs to be followed in order to send in your console to them?

Is it cheaper to send in an existing console to have it modified or to purchase a modified console from them directly through their web site or from their eBay Store?

Thanks.

Hi again,

By the way, is there another web site that is offering this service?

Thanks.

First of all: modify them for what? "Modify" doesn't mean anything in particular; could be UNIBIOS, could be a video mod (to add S-Video or Component), could be a stereo mod (if you're too good to go through the headphone port), or if you're talking about KPJ (which you are) then it could be some clear plastic and LEDs.

Safe? Yeah, but Kenny charges an arm and a leg. JMKurtz is probably your best bet if you're talking about a video mod. I'm not sure who would install a UNIBIOS for you, but I'm sure somebody's out there.

Finally, neotropolis is super well known and has been discussed many, many times. You might try using the search function next time, you can answer most noob questions such as this pretty easily that way.

Enjoy. I'm anxiously awaiting your post asking about superguns and how to get hooked up with a much cheaper MVS setup ;)

Hi Lochlan,

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I was referring to KPJ. I would like my system to be fully modified just as it is shown on the Neotropolis web site.

I wasn't aware that there was a search function. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I will give it a try now.

Thanks again.

You're better off talking to JMKurtz than even thinking of going to Neotropolis.

IF you do decide, for whatever reason, to send your AES to Neotropolis, make sure you buy yourself plenty of vaseline or another lube that can be used internally.

What he's referring to is price.

Kennyboy can mod... but he came on the board here to learn how and was bragging that when he did learn he'd be the cheapest out there to mod the AES. Boy, did that turn out to be wrong. He's arguably the most expensive.

You can read about the drama with a search.

Yes, sorry, KPJ will complete the work you ask him to do, but, at a price.

Speaking of Neotropolis, are there any other places that do MVS to AES conversions? Their prices seem awfully high on some of those conversions...

Neotropolis is not a "they", it is a HIM. Kennyboy is the only person there. He uses rhetoric and lies to try and con new buyers into dumping money into his insatiable pockets.

Spend your money elsewhere.

Ok, fair enough, but that doesn't really answer my question. Where is this "elsewhere" that I can spend my money on MVS to AES conversions? :P

Converted carts suck.

I bought a CMVS 2 slot from him near Christmas time, and it was perfect.

Great seller, great product. His work is quite nice.

Oh? Why's that? Is it better to just go with the original MVS carts?

Yes. It is better to just get a consolized MVS.

For the cost of two conversions, you could buy a consolized MVS and those two games in MVS format. Plus, with a CMVS, you can play all MVS games, not just converted carts.

Actually, I already have the Super MVS Converter II for my AES console, so no need for a CMVS. I'm just curious if other places do MVS to AES conversions, but if you're saying they're not as good then I guess it doesn't matter.

Yeah consolized MVS is the way to go if you are just a gamer. However, if you do want to get an AES modded go to Kurtz.

I sent him my system and he had it done in like 3 days. Plus, he's in the central US so no matter where you live you're talking a pretty quick turnaround on shipping.

Hope this helps.

By the way, KPJ does a great job as well just a little more expensive.

I would honestly go the CMVS route. For the price of a few choice AES games, you could probably grab them all in MVS form, the CMVS system, sticks, and other stuff. It's just cheaper and a lot easier to find.

Plus, a lot of games aren't on the AES

Me, I'm a home cart guy.

The sacrificing of perfectly valid fatal fury 3's, etc... makes the practice of 'converting' games a shitty thing.

Frankengames blow.

You really cant go wrong with neotropolis as far as the work is concerned, it is second to none. If price is a concern get a few quotes and look around. I have dealt with Kenny before and have always been pleased.

Mmmm it's a biiiig waste of money sending it to Kenny. You could just build a box with a scart cable and have a JROK in it. Headphone audio is just as good.

If you like looking at your games on a shelf, get an AES.
