So a friend of mine I had not seen in a long time stoped in and hung out for a while. Natrually with a living room full of arcade cabs we ended up playing some games.

I just happened to have Metal Slug in my big red at the time so he began to play that. It was pretty funny to see his expression as he had never played the game before and was impressed. He wanted to know when it was made and thought it was a lot newer than it was.

We played a few fighters too and it was about the same reaction. He really liked how large the characters were. We are the same age so we grew up on the same games and such here in the same town but I guess he never went to the arcade much. He is pretty big into games and I thought it funny when he asked me "Neo Geo, what game is that?

Next time he comes by I'm going to try and get him started on baseball stars pro. I really need someone to play that with.

That's pretty funny because I received the same reaction when my cousin came over earlier in the week. He loved metal slug, aero fighters 3, and ssII. Never heard of any of the titles before, but he got a kick out of the speed, control, and replay ability of metal slug.

Yeah it's kinda sad how many people have never even heard of the Neo that are of the age when it was popular :(

About half of my friends who are my age and play games have heard of a Neo Geo, and about half have not -- but of the ignorant half, at least most of them recognize Samurai Shodown and/or Metal Slug.

With the various ports of both series, I'm surprised your friend hasn't at least heard of these games.

Here In the UK very few people know of the Neo Geo most that do know are between 25-35. When people ask about hobbies I mention Arcade Collecting and the Neo Geo and they havent a clue what Im talking about. When I do show my work mates Neo games they are usually Impressed. Turf Masters and Metal Slug get the most praise.

Yeah, kinda the same way with me. Some of my friends know the neo as the handheld (neo geo pocket color) and they have played ports of Metal Slug and KoF. Recently, I got my little sister interested, and she told all her friends, and they were just confused. She said puzzle-bobble, and they asked her if she meant she wanted to blow bubbles. They played bust-a-move and the little girl started to cry when she had to go home, she loved it so much!

Most of the people that I grew up with knew the machine from the local arcades and loved it when the new KOF came out every year. The Electric Circuit arcade that was in Bloomfield, NJ always had a Samurai Shodown, KOF, or AOF title in it at all times. I couldn't tell you how much I dumped into a dedicated SamSho II machine at a local card collectors shop when it came out.

The ones that never played on the actual equipment always come around and say "Couldn't you just buy the Xbox or Playstation version for cheaper?" The other ones that didn't play it back then just knew it as the home system that costs around $600.00.

My local sportscard store that was a 2 minute walk from my house growing up had a 1 slot with World Heroes but the 7-11 down the street had a 2 slot with Metal Slug and Baseball Stars 2.
