Hi everybody,

Lately I was mumbling in the Italian forum about this (btw tnx to neo bomberman!):

The picture I have clear in mind is that NeoGeoFreak magazine started in may '95, and SSC first issue is march '97.
Well, looking at "NeoGeo Club, pro-gear advanced entertainment magazine" cover with a mighty 8man , it should be around late '91.

Looking at the index, it talks about KOTM OST CD, some kind of "fan corner", RoboArmy calendar , 2020 super baseball and more (kyandei-baaku? Seems they are all girls...candies?)
Even if not as a ~130 pages NeogeoFreak, seems still rich of interesting things ;)

So, I'm really curious about this "ghost" magazine , which could be the only official material of the time, except for the usual flyers of the games, that everybody already knows.
How many issues?
How japanese gamers did receive it?
Is that the only picture we have?

Could this be an interesting summer-mystery, or am I the only one with no clue!? :multi_co:

Goodnight.

Massimiliano

Yes, I agree.
I think it's something so original and unique, a part of the "new world" SNK was promoting.

Digging in the Italian thread (tnx to Shito who searched in google more than me...), seems there is another clue about "NeoGeo Club" magazine:

UMMM

I wish I could buy all these issues ever released, I have all the neo freaks but I would like to have all of these

Well, what I would understand too is if someone knows EXACTLY how many issues, or other info about that magazine.

Does NeoBomberman still look sometimes this forum?

Interesting find.

Have they ever had photos of games that ended up unreleased? Billy Pitt might know.

Cool.
I didn't think about that initially, but it could at least for the first (unreleased) games (I.e. sun shine or fun fun), looking at the time the 5th issue was released... dunno for how long exactly the magazine was printed.

Anyway I'm sure there are a lot of info on it, after all it was the official magazine!

FOUND!

Hi,

I'm right back from vacation, and I found a nice gift at home (God bless EMS), so here are my first impression thoughts:

This is the original Neo-Geo Club Magazine (hail).

Until today, even I was not sure about the content of those envelopes, so, waiting the end of the deal (it was an exhausting 4-round match..), I tried asking around last week.
As stated in this very same thread or the italian one, it was quite unknown and misunderstood, so in the end I'm proud to say this is the first time people can see it in it's full beauty (^_^)

As I wrote at the beginning of the thread, it should not to be mistaken with NeoGeo Freak* or SSC magazine (SNK Supporter Club), printed around six years later ( respectively 5/1995 and 3/1997).

*I personally agree with NeoBomberman's suggestion talking via mail, as NGC was a quarter magazine started in late '90, counting 18 issues (plus some extra-series), that it could be naturally evolved following SNK's plans, in NeoGeo Freak, born at the time NGC stopped.

Anyway this one is the official japanese SNK quarter magazine about the NeoGeo Club, promoted at the same period of SNK's "Neo-Geo World"project launch, which was not only the console, available through the rental and later sale service, but also the arcade MVS system, playable at game centers. It explain why inside both AES/MVS are present, but more, also why first issues are talking about the rental service:

If it was sent via postal service to the subscribers of the Club mostly, it could explain the reason why it -was- so fucking hard to find or even to see.
Btw it could explain also why the software catalogues, included often with the issues, have that characteristic shape!

The subscription to the club included the magazine (fully "NeoGeo Club Advanced Entertainment Magazine"), which features a -LOT- of stuff such as price-list for rental and for sale service, special offers, information about new games releasing, fans corner, gifts, invitation to events, software catalogue and more, I'm quite disappointed ... even a memory card!

The size and the style of the magazine changed through the time, leading some people to the misconception, that even different magazines existed (although with the same title), but every pic/info I found around, confirm the content of these envelopes:

So, now what?
Now I'm going to start an long work of translation and documentation (probably most with my teacher) as I just opened things random, but I'm sure this will be the chance to improve my japanese having hours of fun... stay tuned! (^_-)

That guy made me crazy, he even cancelled a winning bid on that time!
As I said, that auction was appearing here and there with different price (from same guy), but every time something happened!

Last one was (finally) around one month ago, but I couldn't handle shipment to Europe until these days :( (and during all that time the only picture I could use to understand ,was about a corner (?) of those envelopes! -and the description of course)

if you ever want to sell them, please see me

You probably already know the answer, but thanks, in case I'll contact you first.

Seems to me that's the case of an official 'snail-mailing list', very typical of the Japanese businnes (at the time). Subscribers used to get fold-out flyers filled with news, released dates, price guides, etc.

Very nice find!

Did you get the entire set? If so that's a very, very good find. In the years it took me to get the Freak set and the SSC set, I've only found one issue for this and it is Vol 18. I spoke with NBM a bit about it but had no idea how many there were etc. If Vol 18 is the last one then these are very early indeed as it has KOF 94 and Samsho 2 in it primarily.

Hi Resolution Scan Please ?!

Hey any chance that you could PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post here or elsewhere on the internet, or email me a really nice hi resolution scan (or whatever is the best you can do) of the flyer "mvs line up" in picture 4 of your post? (shown above)

Those are two screen shots from the unreleased Sammy Dunk Star basketball game, and I would love to add them to the web site!

Very NICE!
Thanks!

Yes, it's complete set from 1 to 18, plus 4 unnumbered (like the Garou Densetsu one).

Yes that's a point I was thinking too, after talking with NeoBomberman (even if I have not yet made an in deep analysys on that volume..where have you been this whole time!? ;) )

Anyway, let's have fun with math:

the release date for Samurai Spirits 2 is december 94.

Looking at my NeoGeoFreak first issue (May '95), it is focused primary on GarouDensetsu 3, released in April 95.

ngf.png

There is -just- a quarter beetween the two, it's not so much, but I think we could still miss something of course is always possible ;) ...I'll take a deep look to the unnumbered ones.

Hi Billy, sure I can help you, just do not ask me to put that stuff on a scanner, I'm a -really- "anal" collector, and I can assure you that even open that stuff can cause heart disease,at least to people like me ;)

Anyway, as soon someone borrow me a nice camera, I'm sure we can talk about it in pm.

Thanks to you, maybe there could be others!
