Hi I am building a supergun to use on a NTSC TV. Do you have to use a Encoder to use a supergun In the states?

Or can you use component something like this.....

video red + video ground - red rca
video green + video ground - green rca
video blue + video ground - blue rca
video sync + video ground - yellow rca

Where would blanking ground go? with the yellow rca

Please help

Yes you have to use an encoder.

Component video isn't RGB, it doesn't work that way.

The green component wire is Luminance (the same as s-video), the blue is the blue signal minus luma, the red wire is the red signal minus luma. The green signal isn't transmitted at all, it's calculated on the fly.

If you have an NTSC tv with a Dsub connector, and you're a lucky person and the tv accepts 15khz through analog RGB, you could just run it straight in. Odds are, though, converter.

JROK to component or XRGB to VGA. However you wanna do it.

Mmmm component definitely isn't RGB, that's for sure.

a JROK would be perfect for a supergun if you're planning on using component. I suggest you read up a bit more on how to wire up JAMMA first before attempting to build a supergun. It will help, a lot.

I have built 3 superguns but they were all designed to played on a U.K. TV. Im making a supergun for a guy In the states they use NTSC not PAL (scart) which Is a doddle to do. I guess I will have to get an encoder.

Thanks for your help

Ahhh righteo! I just thought you were really clueless.

All good! JROK is simple to set up too so shouldnt be too hard. Just the price is a bit on the steep side.

Dude!

That's $170! You can get a Jrok for half that. Shit... you might as we get an XRGB at that point in time.

Not having to do an encoder for the supergun in Europe takes out half the work. In North America, the encoder is the heart and soul of the supergun. Without it, it would just be an empty box with some wires in it.

So yes, it will take more work if you're used to getting by easy with no encoder.

My bad... I last bought one before the US Dollar crashed... Was like $120 or so back then... And The Component Jroks were more expensive than they are now.....

Looked Into both methods I am hopeing to house a Jrok V3.1 Inside. And you can pick them up for as little as 40GBP thats cheap. Thanks for all your help, I take for granted that us europeans only need to connect the wires from the jamma loom to a scart socket easy. I see what the Amercians are up agaist now.
