Fixing up another arcade cabinet. I'm very happy so far. All I'm waiting for now is the power supply, power filter, etc... so I can get this machine all wired up. What do you guys think so far?

I plan on turning this cab into the go to "genertic" cab that can play everything like MVS, CPS2/3 and Atomiswave. It's kind of cool because the whole panel folds out and all the doors in the back of this cab opens for easy access.

wow.
purple.....

Yep
I get tired of the same old generic black Jamma cabs, also it will look good agains my yellow arcade wall. This cab will replace the Dodgeball cab. Eventually, I'm going to paint all of my machines to something other than semi-gloss balck...

Trust me, if you saw the condtion of the hacked non Jamma harness, you wouldn't be feeling so bad. Besides, free cab with hack harness and no medium res CRT = summer project!!!

Though purple isn't my thing I think the restoration is looking great. Nice arcade room BTW. You've got a great selection there plus a number of them are running systems so games can easily be swapped out.

I also see the corner of a pinball, what have you got there?

Meh, that Narc looked like it was in shit condition.

If he saved the art and sticks he could send it off to someone who actually cared. Besides who wants a cab dedicated to Narc? I don't want a dedicated cab for some generic title (and I enjoy Narc!) when I could easily swap in and out a dozen other PCBs.

I mean granted there are some cabinets out there worth saving. Narc? Not so much.

I really dig the purple.

Given any thought to repainting some of your other cabs?

It's on old EM pinball machine called "Big Ben". It doesn't look like much but everyone of my friends start obsessing over their high score. It's defiantly a "shooters" table. I've been upgrading my bulbs over to LEDs recently for the hell of it.

I've never been a fan of Narc and I think this cab was from LA or back East because the joysticks were rusted solid. I'm guessing from the ocean. That's why you see a screwdriver in the first picture. I had to use a hammer and the screwdriver to pound out the joystick shaft from the main body. It took me almost 45 minutes to remove the two joysticks. Oh, the control panel overlay was all cracked and ugly. Yeah this cab was 2 steps away from the dump.

Now as for a classic cab. I consider any arcade machine (mostly pre Jamma) with an original control scheme as worth to be left alone and not converted. For example: Tron, Tempest, Pac-Man, Centipede, Asteroids, hell even the Neo-Geo because of the LEDS credit display.

I have an old decent shaped Simpson cab (which will replace the blue cab) that I will convert since the repro decals are soo damn expensive to replace, since someone slashed the decals to shreds. I plan on painting that machine Ninja Turtle Green and put Turtles in Time in it. Then have each joystick colors after each turtle in the game.

My Street Fighter 3 cab and the Neo-Geo (which was one of my first conversion which I did a real sloppy job on) I plan on repainting.

Any ideas for the SF3 colors? Remember it has to go well with the yellow wall.

The MVS conversion I'll probably leave for last just because I'm always keeping my eyes open for a real Big Red four slot.

I still have an empty Mortal Kombat 3 cab that needs to be built from the ground up. The cool thing about that cab is that it came with 2 optical joysticks.

The MK3, Narc, Simpson and the blue X-men conversion were all junk cabs that I got for free. With some elbow grease and lots of room and time, you can turn the most dilapidated cabinet into a nice looking machine.

Would you care if I said it was the one in Turtles 1;)

Maybe do a bright orange cab? Or would that be too close in color to yellow?

It would fit well if you had a Red cab I think.

Kid: Do you have any cigarettes?

Foot Clan Thug: Regular or menthol?

I never thought about an orange cab, hmm.

I was leaning more towards white and crayola blue.

It usually depends on my mood when I choose a color for one of my cabs.

Converting a cab because the side art (or CPO or whatever the hell you mean by "decals") is "expensive" is probably the weakest justification I've ever heard. (That one and "you should have seen the non-JAMMA harness" are my top 2 now.)

Plus, if you keep it a dedicated Simpsons it will probably have more resale value if you ever plan on selling it.

Not that you care, but seriously...

Hey if you can find me a set if sideart (NOS or repo) that's not over $150, I'm game, but I don't plan on buying big ass stickers just so I can keep a cabinet orignal. I rather have my cabs be just that: mine.

Regarding the NARC cabinet;
I really do not like the shape of those NARC cabinets, I think the "jutty-out" monitor box looks kind of... I dunno... crappy :/

Pro tip: you don't have to put on side art OR paint it green to play the games inside.

It's yours and you can do whatever you want -- I just wanted to throw out there that I think painting an original Simpsons cabinet green is pointless and destructive.

As far as the internet is concerned, there is no such thing as a foreigner.:make_fac:

Well, to me, you are the foreigner.

Anyway next time I see a Simpsons cabinet I will paint it green just for you ;)

I think this conversion is tops! Excellent choice on the color as it makes a very odd design for a cab look the richer and unique. I would have opted for different color buttons, perhpas Yellow with some yellow T-molding and Bam! Instant match for your room which btw, looks amazing!

I'm a big fan of conversions 'cause there so much fun, but I'm an even bigger fan of restorations 'cause if you can make it look legit enough by McGyvering things then all is well with the world.

I will silence all those who gave you crap about killing a Narc cab; Narc was cool when I was like 12, Midway was cool when I was like 8. Besides the cab was in rough shape for sure!

Congrats are in order, it takes balls to wear a pink shirt, but when it comes to cabs; funkyness can be mixed with class if your not one tacky bastard.

Well its done. My goal was to get this cab ready for the EVO finals here in Vegas and I barely squeaked by. I'm temporarily going with a white plexi as the marquee do to not knowing what the local Neo-Geo group will throw into this cab and I wanted the cab to have the generic appeal. I went with the black t molding but I think I should have gone with white. Oh well. I cleaned up the wiring and now its ready to be delivered.

Wow that's pretty damn good considering the condition it was in before.

IMO old wood cabs don't give me a hard on but its cool nonetheless.
