HAPP convex vs. original MVS buttons

Sorry for the title mixup. I just recently got my first MVS cab. For the most part its in great shape, but wanting it to be as perfect as possible, I bought new HAPP concave buttons to replace the existing originals, which you can imagine are a bit worn. Once I got them on the 2p side they looked great, but to my surprise there was a disappointing difference. The buttons looked to be raised a bit more and take a longer push to make contact with the microswitch. After checking and comparing, I discovered that there was indeed a larger gap between the bottom of the button and the switch on the HAPPs then on the originals.

Has anyone else noticed this difference? I'm sure you have since I'm still new to the system, but wanted to get your thoughts. I actually ended up leaving the original buttons on the 1P side where they were because they allowed for a better twitch press when playing games like Metal Slug and shmups.

I agree. If you buy brand new HAPP concave buttons they do seem to be very 'spongy'. I have a PS2 MAS stick and HRAP2 with all Sanwa, and when I go to the MAS stick my whole hand is sore from beating the buttons. I have a MAS stick for Neo with Convex HAPP buttons and they are way more responsive than the Convace buttons. I've noticed out at other arcades, there are concave buttons on other machines and they actually respond very well, so I don't know if HAPP is selling two kinds of concave buttons, or if there are other HAPP style buttons not made by them.

I switch all my buttons out with convex happs. I just don't like the feel of concave buttons. Thats one of the first things I generally do when I get a cab.

Honestly, I like both buttons. Neither give me problems. If we're talking about fighting games, I have the convex on all of them. They do seem to feel better... they have a shorter throw, so they feel more responsive, to me. But, I have played fighters with good old concave ones, and that doesn't really bother me, either.

If I had to choose, I'd pick the happ convex ones.

Maybe I should consider going to the convex buttons then, as the longer throw on the HAPP concave bothers me on games like Metal Slug X and shmups like I mentioned before. I just wanted to use the concaves to retain a more original look/feel to the cab.

I'm a die hard Neo Geo fighting fan and it's Happ Convex all the way for me. As others have stated, switching to these buttons was one of the first things I did when I got my cabinet.

The thing I really like about the convexs is I can rest my whole fingertips comfortably across the button and just tap them lightly where with concave buttons I tend to curl my fingers and just use the tips -- that gets uncomfortable.

Plus with games like MD3 the shorter throw means you have a quicker response time.

Which ones are the prefered ones though? On their website, they have three kinds of buttons for the MVS.

Oh, those are the nice ones? I saw ones with really short pull, so I thought those were the ones everyone was talking about.
