I started with one. Then picked up two more later from a guy that was into 3DO and I was in a 3DO dumping mood so we swapped a lot of of stuff. I eventually sold two of them (1997 or so). I found a cheap gold system with box for $175 shipped so I picked it up. I bought another later for under $200 modded (turned out to be a lame setup after a while) I then bought a motherboard that too ended up being flakey.
Why? Becaue I never want to wake up only to find that I'm unable to play a Neo*Geo game. I can't fathom the pain I'd feel if I did not have a working system. Backups are important. I guess that's why I have backups of other systems too like the Vectrex, Jaguar, Saturn et al.
When I found out that Sega didnt' port over lots good games from Japan I started to buy both US and JPN systems. I used to have two AES Gold and I sold JPN one to Homeslice.
Ive been looking for a cheap 2nd one so ican send it off to jeff for the mods. But here in England the retro collectors are really putting the prices up. I paid £100 ($130) for a boxed mint US system in early 2000. Now unboxed ones are pushing £200.
I never planned on having more than one Neo but I got a second one when I bought someones collection. I'm using the second one right now because I sent one to Jeff Kurtz to get modded. I don't think I could stand being without a Neo for a month.
I was gonna end up with a third Neo but someone from Germany ripped my ass off. Since I can't speak german or know the german laws I never figured out how to get even on that one.
I own one system, and just recently bought another just in case the first breaks. I did however send both to Jeff for a super mod, and let me tell you, it was totally worth the time and money!!

I have two. One is in the living room hooked up to the TV, next to my Dreamcast and SNES. I call this one the "showroom model" because it has a few scruffs and its the one that gets played when I have visitors. The other one is hooked up to an RGB monitor and is in the game room which also occupies two computers, a NEO-CD unit, and a Genesis/Sega-CD combo. This one is minty and is generally for private use. <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">
I have 3.
My original Neo thats been kicking since 90.
A super neo, that I bought from Jeff with all the bells & whistles.
And just got another US system, someone traded it Neo,2sticks,memcard for a poster of mine.
