I just got an RB2 MVS in the mail and it's the only one out of 7 different from various sellers that will not boot up. Most times I at least get garbled gfx with some games and then after cleaning and switchig to different slots they'll work but so far nothing seems to work for this RB2 cart.

Could it be dead, could it be a knock off? It's the only black MVS case I've seen that has a rough surface too. All my other carts are nice and smooth.

What do you guys think? The chips inside were Sharp (SNK 94) on one board and Samsung (SNK 97) on the other. Did RB2 come with a serial?

Sounds / looks legit to me. Maybe it's a Yaton re-case. Clean the contacts thoroughly with an eraser and make sure there are no bad solder joints on the ICs (probably not since it looks like the boards are ok).

When I opened the cart with the screw holes facing up the chips for both boards were facing up. Is that correct then?

I'll have another go at it with an eraser this time. I've just been using Q-Tips which seems to work. I'll post my findings.

Yes..

To be extra sure that the boards are in correctly..open up another cart..

Clean the contacts real good..

Those black MVS cases-rough surface I;ve had with MS4....It was a pain, the cart was pressing on the boards too much warping them..Preventing the cart from working.
MS4 was a new kit and I flipped when it didn't work in any of my cabs...even after cleaning..It did need an extensive cleaning being a new kit.

I noticed no wobble in the boards, they were super tight in the case and by looking at them with a ruler against the edge of the board... they were warping.

The cart did not slide into the motherboard right..it felt too tight going in..

.I had to loosen the screws and then the cart worked..Still the case was made bad and didn't close right..so I had to shave points in the inside of the case to get it to close right and not press on the boards so tight.

UPDATE:

So I used an eraser and contact cleaner on it and then cleaned all the slots on my MVS. Now the game works like a charm.

Thanks for the tips everyone

If a cart ever has gfx issues and they still wont go away even if you do clean the contacts, a good toothbrush, water and some kind of liquid soap will well and truly fix it up. Just make sure you use a hair dryer and dry under the chips before use.
