So in the next town over I found a working cab with a 19in monitor. The thing was in a guy's garage and the bottom has some water damage. All in all not too bad. The monitor has some good burn in and I don't know what it was originally but the powersupply and most of the wires look to have been updated. I think it was not originally a jamma cab and someone rewired it.

It is set up with a DJ boy board in it. Has the marquee, bezel, paperwork. I played it for a bit. It is an odd little game with the voice of Wolfman Jack in it. Don't think I'll keep the game but I'll fix up the cabinet.

I got some pics but I did not think to take them before I started pulling the game apart.

I think the monitor can be rotated so If that is the case it will be going vertical soon.

If you're getting rid of the DJ Boy stuff, let me know!

Best of luck with the refurbish job. What did you have in mind as a vert game?

Yeah I'll be parting with the dj boy stuff. I tried it out for a few moments. The controls on the cab are shot so I could not play it well but it seemed like an okay game.
As for a vert game I was thinking about putting in a mulit game. I had been looking at that namco reunion board with pac man, miss pac man, and galaga but it is pretty expensive still. May try and pick up one of the cheeper so many in one boards.

I won't get much done on this cab for a bit though I am in the middle of rewiring another cab. About two years ago I pulled all the insides out of a cab that I had been turning into a centipede because I could not find the cause of a problem and am just now getting around to starting over. I bought one of those centipede to jamma adapters and am trying to wire it up, but I may do just as well to try and find a multi board for that too. I think team play put out one with centipede, millipede, and missile command on it but I've not had any luck tracking one down.

The good news are that; that's a Dynamo cab which can hold up to a 25" monitor, in fact the frame is already cut for it as you can see on the 19" monitor bracket.

This is one sweet cab, the bad news is that to mounted vertical you are going to have to make either a new wood frame for the 25" monitor brackets, or you can shape the original one to size and make some mcguivering.

The cool things is that even as it is those frames can be rotated, but I wasn't sure if you were shooting to put a bigger monitor in there. I love 19" monitors, I think they look very detailed, I mean the colors come together quite nicely to open path to a more defined look.

My 2 cents.

Well I had no idea what it was.

The metal frame in it is square so It should just turn and works vertical but I could see how mounting a bigger monitor it would need to be the normal way.

If I pick up another 25 inch I may put it in there and use it for something else. I was half way thinking about turning it into a cabinet to play old vertical games in.

The monitor now is okay but has some lines at the top of the picture that I don't think will adjust out.

I had a dynamo cab in the past or at least one I Thought was one and it was not built the same. The coin box in this is all wood and the coin door is pretty old looking.

Some how I've run into problems at every turn with my arcade setup. I've two 19 inch cabs that I have been working on them both at the same time. The one pictured in the link in the first post and another not pictured.

Anyhow just playing around I hooked up my extra 2 slot board to a new 19 inch monitor I picked up to put in that cab. I was shocked how nice it looked. I guess it is been a while from when I had seen a new monitor. I've also got a 19 inch lcd that is a drop in replacement type for a crt. It is pretty cool as it accepts either vga or the normal pinouts from the connector on a jamma harness. I got to say that the lcd costs twice as much as the tube and just does not look as good.

So I've changed my plans now and think I'll pick up a one slot board and pop in that ugly cab and do a bit of body work on it to pretty it up.
I was thinking maybe setting up the cp for just one player. Not that I have anyone I play and as I have a big red, so it seems like it would be cool to have a one player cabinet. Maybe put in a headphone jack on the cp.

On a side note.. new stuff don't seem to work too good with old stuff. My 28 year old track ball won't work with that silly 60 in 1 board I picked up. All the games look pretty good on the board but I notice that the company names are missing though it has the copyright year still. The vga out on it sucks.

Is your vga problem with the LCD?

I have a 48-1 and the VGA is rather nice on my 19" PC monitor.....

I got a new trackball in the mail. It took a while to find one that was 2.25 inch to fit in my cp but got it all hooked up and it works great with that 60 in 1 board.

The cool thing about it is that there is a connector on the board to hook the track ball too so you don't have to wire it into the jamma and could have a joy stick and a track ball both for each player if you liked.

Though now it is only like a 2 in 1 board as I disabled everything but cenitpede and millipede and have it installed in my centipede cab.

How well does the Trackball work with Arkanoid?

I always wanted to know....

Where did you get the trackball from and did it plug directly into the 60-in-1 PCB?

I've not tried the track ball with anything other than centipede and millipede.

I got the track ball off of ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-1-4-Atari-Cen...VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

The guy has a lot of them. As for how it hooks up. That harness on the track ball is standard. I found that there are two places to get a wire harness that will hook into that and then straight to the 60 in 1 board. I got mine from Bob Roberts, I think that jamma boards sells one too.

It is a 2.25 inch trackball. I had to have one that size to fit in the spot for the original one on the centipede control panel. I would think though pretty much any new track ball would work. My original one was 28ish years old so it was not compatiable.

As soon as I get a chance I'll turn test it with that game.

Cool... I always wanted to know how well a trackball works with a spinner game period.... As a trackball is essentially just a pair of spinners.

Okay I gave it a try.

So I tried the track ball on Arkanoid and over all I thought it was better than the stick. I think for the small movements it was a lot better than the stick as I could just move the ball a tiny bit rather than try to tap left or right. Though I think one would have a bit more easy time with a spinner.

It's been a long time from when I actually played with a spinner so maybe my opinion is not too good but I think the trackball was almost as good as the real thing. If you are used to a trackball and are fairly good with it, I don't think that it will be much of an adjustment.

Another thing is I think that a bigger track ball would be better so you could roll around more without having to take your hand off as much.

Wear a weightlifting glove.....

Joystick+spinner games pretty much sucks don't it???
Especially breakout...

Good to know that I won't have to add a spinner and a trackball on future projects...
