Im still getting the "Error-01" on my Naomi-1 GD-rom setup.

Here is what I do know..

Im trying to play CAPvsSNK2

The game is supposed to be one of the only GD-Roms that will play with any region of bios chip

I bought and installed a Japanese Bios, ran all the system tests and all checked out...but the same "error-01" appears when loading the game

The GD-Rom drive does spin up before the Naomi logo comes up...then I get the error

I have a 3 ft SCSI cable connecting the rom drive to the DIMM board... I read somewhere it cant be any longer than 3 ft and work...dont know if its true, but 3 ft was the shortest I could find with the correct amount of pins.

I do have the security key for the game.. not sure how it works exactly, but I insert it and the middle "nub" raises up when its pushed into the hole on the DIMM board..none of the pins are bent on the key

I looked up my US bios chip online and it seems to be GD-ROM capable.

I have re-seated the DIMM about 20 times with no change

I also tried to play a copy of CAPvsSNK-1 PRO, doesnt work with the Japanese bios inserted, or the US of course since its not supposed too

Cartridge games do work

What I dont know:

Do I need anything besides the SCSI cable and security key plugged into the DIMM board?

Do I need to use the serial cable input somehow on the DIMM board?

Should I shove this GD-ROM setup up my ebay dealer's ass? :conf::smirk:

which ones error 01? i dont remember.

does the error come before or after the game loads into ram?

does the gdrom/dimm work?

does the gdrom spin the disc at all?

have you run the tests in the test menu?

what version bioses do you have.

cvs2 should works with us and japan, probably the export too. but i can confirm that cvs pro wont work with the us one.

This is what the manual says for GD-Rom Setups. If this doesn't work i would try a different Setup if available. Just to see.

ERROR 01
[DISPLAY] ERROR 01
THIS GAME IS NOT ACCEPTABLE
BY MAIN BOARD.
[CAUSE] The ROM BOARD (or DIMM BOARD) is not connected correctly to the
MAIN BD correctly.
[COUNTERMEASURES] First, turn power off, connect the ROM BD (or DIMM BOARD) correctly.
If the status is not improved yet, the board may be malfunctioning.

The rom drive spins when the machine is first turned on...then I get ruffly 30 seconds or so of blank screen...then the rom drive spins up and you can hear the laser moving....then the Naomi screen comes up (white background)...then that same screen prints "Error-01 , this game is not compatable with the main board"

or something very close to what I wrote... my normal US bios is # 21577 A

which isnt listed on the Naomi site, but seems to be included in the most recent set of chips..that are supposed to be GD-rom and Network compatable.

I have run all tests with zero issues on both Bios chips, noth come up saying either Japanese or USA at the top of the setup screen like they should.
All the ram tests check out ok... the game test cant be run for some reason...says game "unkown" under the test option...but the game test wont run.

As far as the GD-Rom and DIMM boards working , that what Im trying to figure out... I bought them from a guy with good feedback, they looks brand new, and like I said the drive spins and the DIMM I have no way of testing other than using it.

I never see the "loading game" dialog that I see with a cart game...that normally happens after the Naomi screen comes up...but instead of saying it loading the game, I get the Error message.

unfortunatly I dont have any spare parts to try...so Im pretty fucked in that arena... all this stuff was sold as working. Does anyone know if the version of the DIMM board matters? I think its a version 3. something...I would have to look at the auction listing if its still there to even look at...

dimms have these shitty bga soldered chips and can go bad easily.

check your voltages, what kind of psu are you using?

try emailing this guy and see what he thinks:
http://www.irepairsega.com/

maybe you can work out a deal with the seller to go halfsies or something on the repair since if it is busted it likely happened in shipping. ive had two go bad enroute.

Im not sure what power supply it is... I cant see the damn thing from the front with the tray pulled out.... and I have back injuries so I would have to have a friend come over to move the machine to even check.

so am I right about only needing the SCSI cable for the conncection from the rom drive to the DIMM board? Or do I need to move the serial cable from the main board to the DIMM ?

Thanks for all the fast replies btw guys, you all kick ass

i think it's a connection issue if not then a power issue the gd rom set up is very problematic with power issues do you run it from a 3.3volt ps line of do you have a capcom i/o running it

anyway just double/triple check all the connection and it's usually the dimm to gd part or the voltage:cool:

go to the site on my sign the sega naomi forum

I'm not sure about the power..I will check when I get a chance.... I don't have the capcom I/O...I believe its the sega version.

I have actually been to your forum, thats where I learned about the bios versions and disc compatibility. Is it possible for the disc drive to spin up like it does, or give the error message if the power is inadequate?
Wouldn't it turn off when the power supply gets overdrawn wattage wise?
