I have a few different game PCBs that run on the Seta SSV hardware that have a CR2032 battery soldered to the ROM board. All of the game settings are stored via dip switches. Trying to figure out what this battery is for. Hopefully it's not a suicide battery that stores encryption data. Anyone know?

Does it keep scores?

Nope, no score saving and it doesn't keep bookeeping data either. I'll test the batteries when I get some time to see if they are still alive.

Looking through the MAME source, it appears nobody knows what the batteries are for. They mention that one game prints "backup ram OK" but never actually uses the RAM.
