Bouncy Image in 25" WG Monitor - Fixed! +story

I have a Neo Geo 2 Slot with a 25" Monitor that I picked up about a month ago. Had some people who know what they are doing (which surely isn't me!) look at it and play with the monitor settings, but we were unable to get the image to be stable on the screen.

It would either be curling on the bottom, or correctly centered and bouncing up and down slightly. Not alot, so its still playable, just very annoying.

Any thoughts on an easy fix? (please? haha)

I can post pictures (or a video) if my description is lacking (which it probably is)

I often find I have some bounce that appears to be in time to the level of various colours on the screen.

I remember the flashes of white on KOF98 being a good example of this.

I seem to remember turning down the brightness helped.

I also think I had an issue at one point depending on the volume of the music.

Maybe this is one of the times that de-gaussing the monitor would help?

Maybe a flaky cap around the "jungle" read vertical osc/sync stage, not typically a cap kit fix but replacing the electros around that stage may fix this.

It has nothing to do with degaussing.

haha degaussing

Yep, recapping the monitor will fix this. I have seen this a few times (all on WG chassis too).

Would not be so sure about that, this is a fairly rare symptom imho. But it is quite possible.

A high res resistor around that stage would cause the same, my instinct is a 470/680 K ohm around there.

If I am understanding correctly, the image rolls or bounces when white flashes on the screen. I have seen this several times, and a recap has seemed to fix it. It could be a resistor in this instance.

thats just what the second guy in here is assuming.

it sounds to me more like hes having a sync issue.

For what its worth I once had a TV that did this on a couple of certain games which had very fast white flashes since it was new.

Maybe its just a "artifact" of certain chassis?

That's my experience - doesn't matter if it's a cab or a tv. I'll have to try it on my Bravia sometime.

Uploading a video which hopefully captures the issue better than i can explain it.

Should be an .avi file that anyone should be able to see.

The issue does not seem to be limited to when there are white flashes. I had it on the test screen and it still does it then.

I'm with not sonic, sound like a sync issue.

Are you able to test another PCB on this monitor?

I'm sure someone will suggest it needs to be recapped so it might as well be me as I don't have any other suggestions.

Blooming or balooning is usualy caused by poor regulation, what happens if the +B is adjusted ?

Not sure if you're experienced with monitors or not so just in case; only adjust it a very small amount at a time.

+B refers to the voltage that is supplied to the flyback transformer.

Ok, going to say I'm a complete and total noob.

No idea where/what that is.

Can someone give me an idea where to look? :)
