Edit: Please see bottom post for updated Pics.

I now have all the components under the metal case and working.

inside4.JPG

Before anyone asks, no the power supply isn't touching the metal case. There is a plastic layer between the two. I was wanting to originally use 10 mm spacers, but they placed the power supply just barely above the parts on the MVS board and I thought that was too close.

I also looked into mounting the psu so that its components were facing the metal case and use spacers to do this. After measuring this, that also seemed to be pushing it. I just decided to mount it solder side towards the case and use a plastic piece to seperate the two.

The hardest part is now over, and I am left to finish up some odds and ends, like the audio cable hanging out the side (that will be soldered to traces at the headphone jack later on). It is also kinda ugly for now.

It is around 25 degrees here, so sanding and painting the case is kinda outta the question for a awhile. I have a flat black enamel I am using on the outside of it.

Tomorrow I am going to work on the base plate to it, since I don't much care for those little legs.

Cool! I've been thinking of dong that as well, but I have a question: How did you get the line audio? I heard that the signal from the MVs is already amplified so that there was some concerns with doing that? any help would be appreciated.

I am pulling the audio from the one of the headphone jacks.

This works very well for running to your TV or stereo system. Nice, clear stereo audio (providing your mvs board has stereo audio).

You don't want to use the audio from the harness as that is amplified. I think Evil_Nick is working on a amplified to line level converter to let folks that are using mvs boards with no headphone jacks still get nice audio.

The key is to use a 2 or 4 slot and use the headphone jacks for the audio.

LOL!

Which part don't you like? The Ninja or MVS reference.

After I get most the project done, I am going to throw up a website with more pictures and far more details as to what all I have done. I still need to make it look pretty.

I prefer to use the audio from the harness. As long as you keep the volume on a nice and low level, you're set.

Seriously I'd putsomething to insulate that harness ASAP! I mean that 5V is drawing around 5-7Amps and that'll fucking kill you man, no lie. I mean seriously insulate that exposed area of the harness as soon as you can, I really wouldn't want to leave that on at all even something could come and short it and blow the thing to kingdom come.

Other than that its extremely impressive what you've done there. BTW, to enhance the cosmetics, did you ever considering using the pinout for the headphone jack instead of a normal headphone jack? That way you could solder it and not have anything on the outside like that. You could also look for a headphone jack that is in a L shape so that you don't have to worry about a wire coming out that way either.

Peace

He says:

like the audio cable hanging out the side (that will be soldered to traces at the headphone jack later on).

:) So guess he is already going that route. Yeah and the harness could use a nice slip cover...

Yes I am going to attach the audio to the headphone traces on the bottom instead of using the side jack. The headphone jack on the side is a temp thing.

I am going to use a rubber boot to insulate the front harness. Just looking for something to fit it.

looks awesome, but doesn't the power supple need some cooling?

Nope.

In my testing so far, the power supply barely even gets warm.

Due to popular demand (lol), I have fixed a couple things that looked rather "ghetto".

First off, I have wired the audio direct to the pcb traces on the bottom of the board. I am using a small connector in the cable so that It can be unplugged easily:

side1.JPG

I ran the cable through the a hole in the top of the memory card slot.

Next up, the harness. I redid this and minimized the number of wires going to it. All the ground and 5 volt points are hooked up, just with less wiring to do it:

front2.JPG

Instead of 4 Ground wires connecting 8 gound points on the harness, I am using 2 ground wires to connect the 8 ground points. 1 5 volt to connect the 4 5 volt lines on the harness.

I think it looks much neater in appearance and easier to route under the MVS case top. I am still going to place some type of rubber boot around the harness up front for protection.

One last pic:

bottom1.JPG

This shows the bottom of the pcb and the mods I made to it. The yellow wire at the top is a 5 volt line going to the input/ouput of the 7805 voltage Regulator. This allows me to have sound with only 5 volts.

The white cable coming through the bottom on the left side is the audio cable. I attached it to the pcb contacts on the front headphone jack.
