i'm somewhat new to neo geo, so i'm not sure what to look for.

i just received my magical drop 3 mvs cart that i bought through ebay. the cartridge is black. the sticker on the cart is obviously photocopied and has no serial numbers. the marquee is also fake; printed out with a color printer.

the game works perfectly except for when you're playing a two human player vs. game. the problem is when the 2nd player wins by clearing the quota. when the 2nd player's quota is empty, the match ends, 1st player's screen turns black and white and says "LOSE" like it should. the 2nd player's side still remains in color, but it says "LOSE". it should say "WIN" on the 2nd player's side and "LOSE" on the 1st player's side, but both say "LOSE". the 2nd player is still credited with the win, so the scoring is still functional.

any clues on what's happening?

Sounds to me like you have a bootleged copy. You may want to cantact the seller and see if you can get another one or a refund.

That is weird though... even if it was a bad dump of a ROM, you shouldn't see this kind of error unless program code had changed (which should be impossible). Do you mind opening up the cart and showing us some picts of the boards... atleast we can get an idea of what we are dealing with here.

the cart came with a 15 day warranty. i'm going to ask for an exchange before i spread his name all over the net. i will, however, open the case and take pictures and post them tonight. i'm curious to see if it's bootleg or not.

15 day warranty? Did you purchase it from aslan11 on eBay?

It is probably a boot if you did.

Hhhhmmmm.... Well that's the major concensus around here, Aslan11 = major bootlegger. I considered getting supposedly new Blazing Star MVS kit from a while back coz a friend of mine and some members of here community warned me bout'im. Anyways Good Luck and PEACE...

I have to go on the record again as saying... I have delt with Aslan (Rich) and never onced recieved a bootleg game. I have purchased 10 or so titles from him over a years time... I have had a few problems with things I have bought, but he was always quick to make me happy. His carts are usually in need of a good cleaning, but work perfectly. Not one EPROM or modified game yet from him... so just cause it is ASLAN, doesn't mean it is bad.

This guy is already looking bad so far.
I bought 2 games from him and have not received them as of yet, and we are on day number 12. He has all my information and still nothing.
I have e-mailed him, and he told me a week ago that they are on the way.
We will see. I will post an update when he sends them.

That is normal.
I've seen the Lose/Lose on 2 official homecarts & an authentic MVS.
That doesnt mean u might not have a boot, but thats a bug in the official MD3 versions.

I have only bought from aslan once.
The game came with photocopied marquee & Sticker.
However, the cart & pcb's were official.

wow, okay. so it's an actual bug in the game. that works for me. anyhow, i took the pictures, but i won't be able to put them up on my server until tomorrow.

anyhow, i found out there was an original SNK japanese sticker with serial number below the pasted on photocopy of the "magical drop 3" sticker. interesting..

Those boards look fine to me. The chips all look real. I don't see any EPROMs or wires. The boards are SNK. If it is a fake, it is a damn good one. I bet the original case was destroyed/broken and they moved it into this spare Pulstar case. That is my thought on it... I think it looks real.

I'm not the best qualified to answer, other have more experience, but the chips in the pictures do not look like originals to me.

Jeff Kurtz is much more qualified to answer than I am, he might know.

It does not look like the chips have the normal SNK silkscreening on them for the specific part numbers, etc....

Mouse, that game looks good to me... and remember, it is a Data East game, not an SNK. They may have used different chips/screening process for their boards. The games look real, there is silk screening on the chips for part numbers... and there is no cross wiring. The final say would be a picture of the soldier contacts on the back. Later,

Actually I put MD3 in my cab last night... I will try to reproduce tonight. I am running on a US 4 slot board (yep, brand new in my new candy!) I'll let you know,
