Vs Nintendo cabinet on the way

Bought a Nintendo Vs. cabinet on eBay, and I was wondering what you would suggest I should do with the CP. It had a third button added to become Jamma compatible, but with a Vs board also on the way, I'm wondering if I should keep it three button or return it to two button when I redo the CP. Thoughts?

I was watching those auctions too! I wanted to pick one up but didn't want to deal with shipping. If you don't mind me asking, how much did shipping set you back?

I would restore the CP to the original two button layout. To me, if you're going to have a cab like this, I would think that you'd want to keep it as original as possible.

Shipping was just $100, haven't heard anything back from the seller, I think it may be a terminal delivery.

You can either play separate games on both sides or play the same games. Like I believe you can play four player tennis.

I seen a few of those before at the last superauction. They were in terrible shape though.

Got the cabinet. Not in the worst shape, but far from quick work to be done. Anyone know if I can squeeze 19 inch monitors into this cabinet? One of the monitors is complete, but the burn-in is pretty severe. The other monitor doesn't even have a chassis.

It has a lot of dents and rust, but I have some experience with paint and body work, so cosmetics shouldn't be too bad. There was a lot of patch work with the wires, so I just cut them out and I'll start over again.

I'm really looking to pick up one of these. I think they are so cool looking, and I've been a long time Nintendo fanboy.
Assuming I do get one, I would expect to do a good deal of restoration as well. If it isn't too much of a hassle, could you do a somewhat step-by-step walk through of your restoration process? Not only do I love reading through threads like that, I think it would be a big help if and when I get my hands on one.
Congrats on the pickup btw.

Thanks. I'll be sure to take more pictures of this process than I did with my big red cabinet; I only took one of the control panel before I started working on it.

Some parts of the work is ridiculous, such as the power cord being cut. I guess it was do or die when readying for shipment and just unplugging the cabinet would have been a hassle.

While rewiring the cabinet, I'm going to see about wiring it for both JAMMA and Nintendo standard. Not sure yet, just a thought while I assess the project. Going to start with cosmetics first, stripping the paint and sanding tomorrow.

Nice score man. I'm also an old scholl NES fanboy. Looking forward to reading about your restoration project. I also agree about keeping it as original as possible.

I don't know that is a tough one. I think I'd probably leave the 3rd button. That way you can still toss other games in there as well. But nice find.

Upright dual version. We had one converted into a Cyberball 2072. They also make decent 2 player fighter games since it gives both player plenty of space plus you can't spy the other player's moves as easily.

Yeah.. I just can't fit the damn thing in my house.......

One control panel frame has been stripped and sanded, took even longer than it took to strip the paint off my Neo cabinet's panel. Right now I'm going to focus on getting all of the paint off, then onto straightening out the body.
Sanding block and extra strength acetone couldn't break through the thick paint on the side. Sanding block could have, but I'd likely just be down to bare metal now. I went back to my work and picked up an angle grinder and dent hammer. Sanded one side down in about an hour. The dent hammer also worked very well when i tested it in one spot, though I know I will still have to smooth things over with filler.

I've been taking pictures, just haven't uploaded any yet.

I'd recommend that angle grinder and dent hammer, the two combined before my discount was only $36.

Have most of it sanded, but the paint is so damn thick that I went through three sanding disks and the job still isn't done. Still much faster than doing it all by hand, and as you may see, my house is now covered in pink dust.

Are the 19" monitors from 8liners any good? Or should I replace monitors with WG monitors?

I love how you sanded it right in the middle of the room. Have you tried getting rid of some of that dust?

That cab is going to kick so much ass when you're done with it. I can't wait to see the finished product.

It was raining, and I don't have many days off, so it had to be done. Tried cleaning up some of the dust, but its just all over the place.

Next time, rent a sandblaster.....

How are you going to paint it?

Do vs pcb's output neg or composite sync?
Something to think about.

19" seems a bit too big for this cab, I almost bought one from a source in RI, but I just couldn't do much with it at the moment. If it was me I would keep it original and try to find a way to use an actual NES in it.

If my memory serves me right those are 12" or 13" screens in there. Whatever comes out of this is gonna be cool though.
