They look basically the same design, but knowing nintendo, they probably made a block out on it. What do you say?

Yes, there's a regional lock: you have to disable the lockout chip in order to play NTSC carts on a PAL machine (and viceversa). An easy mod, anyway...

While you're at it you can hack it to 60hz if you have a 2-chip mobo, and enjoy the game as it was ment to be.

All info can be found on <a href="http://www.gamesx.com" target="_blank">GamesX</a> :)

On gamesx they say that it isnt possible. You can play Jap carts on an US machine but not on an PAL machine. I am confused.. can you explain, because if it really works I am going to mod my SNES :) .

PS: What an US SNES in good condition will cost?

It is possible to mod a PAL snes to play US / JAP games... However you will either need to hack away the cart slot or use a bridge adapter for the US carts!

I dont know how to do it myself? But my SNES is modded (one switch) & I only have to use the bridge adapter for the US carts! :D

I recommend to read Mark Knibbs' original documents on the SNES mods (with detailed pics too):

You can play Jap carts on your pal SNES by disabling the lockout chip (lift pin 4 away from the pcb and short it to gnd). In order to play US carts you also have to widen the slot because US carts are bigger than Pal/jap ones. Something like this:

Apus, (and others)

Euro snes with serial below or equal UP161* will have the older type 2 chip moddable mainboard in it. :)

I just modded one this week, the small SMD feet are a pain in the ass to desolder even with a needle.. When it says to carefully bend them up, be very very gentle.. you can break them easily..

Also, get a BIG 2k2 resistor, small one will burn out very fast :)

I strongly advise against desoldering the pins...they're too small and close to each other, you risk to mess things up if you use the iron. I simply pull them out with a hook-shaped needle...easy as pie.

How many Watts would you suggest?
