Tim over at www.arcadecollecting.com has now come up with a way to salvage the original small c board on almost all cps 1 boards after the battery has died. No more swamping between street fighter and the punisher for me, I tried it and it works.

Thanks for the post, that's going to help many members (including myself) in dealing with such a problem.*

*Damn you greedy bastards at Capcom for putting in a suicide battery!

It your lucky day I also have a cadillacs and dinosaurs board that I repaired after both batteries have died. First thing your going to have to do is see which batteries are dead out of the two thats on the board. Check the small C board battery for voltage, if its still at 3 volts the c board is still alive and doesn't have to be hacked. If not your going to have to revive it by doing some CAREFUL soldering, cutting and burnig 2 new eprom with a patch program to replace two of the eproms next to the c board. Check to see if the battery on the Q sound board is still alive ( bet you its not ) if its dead your going to have to replace the cpu with a new Z80B cpu and burn another eprom with a patch program for the Q sound board. This whole process is explained in greater detail at www.arcadecollecting.com and the patch programs can also be obtained from there as well.

You may well kill the board on purpose ad then fix the problem forever.

The custom Z80 (the Kabuki) need not be replaced if you do a very simple hack (explained on Tim's page).
