Hey Guys,

I'm new here. I own a Nova Compactscreen Cabinet with a 2 slot MVS motherboard. I bought a 4 slot motherboard to replace, but unfortunately it is too big to fit :(. I did plug it in one time and played some game. But it felt a little faster. I thought maybe this board has a faster CPU or something? Could that be or is that just some placebo thingy? Are some boards faster than others?

The only way I think thatd be possible is if someone replaced the 68000 with a 68010. I could be wrong but I dont think its possible to alter the 68000 clock frequency without disrupting other components on the board.

How can I see all those types? I just have 2 motherboards with their steel shields, not any booklets :). Do you guys sometimes encounter things as framedrops? (especially Metal Slug series)

Unless someone tampered with your board, you should never have to think about this. All the models run the same.

Metal Slug 2 is notorious for slowdown, but not frame drops.....

Slowdowns is the same as the dropping of the frames per second to a lower value :).

But ok, let's call it slowdowns.

Is it normal to have slowdowns sometimes with MVS games?

Just some shooters, like Metal Slug series, or Blazing Star. If you're having slowdown in a fighting game, you have a problem.

Anyone who questions the slowdown probably didn't play too many games in the 80's and 90's. I still don't even notice it unless it's severe.

No it isn't....

It slowsdown is when the motion slows down so that it can display every single frame that the game calls for....

Frame Drop is when the hardware skips frames to avoid slowdown. Often resulting in a Jerky "Fast" motion.

At least that's my take on it... I could be wrong.

Ok, maybe you are right :).

My "slowdown" is when I am in area's of many sprites (in metal slug), like the defeating of end bosses. And in Metal Slug 2 already at the beginning (but that's normal according to Wikipedia). Although I encountered less slowdown with another motherboard. or it is some placebo effect.

Does anyone know how to check motherboard?

I will post some pictures soon.

It's all in your head guy.

With the exact same conditions are met (same # of bullets and enemies in the exact same spot) in same version of Metal Slug you will experience the same amount of slowdown.

If you noticed a difference then the same conditions were not met. You either killed offscreen enemies, prevented them from firing as many bullets, were in a different location, or there just wasn't as much going on in the play area when you noticed the difference.

I have a 1slot, 2 different 2 slots, and a 4 slot. The game speed is exactly the same on all.

And norton is right, frameskip and game slowdown is not the same thing.
