According to GameGO! several consoles are RGB ready, including the Dreamcast and NeoGeo. It also lists the original NES and SNES.

It has the TG-16 and N64 listed as systems that have to be modded.

Is this so? I thought the Neo had to be modded to output to RGB. I know for a fact that the NES has to be modded to have RGB out.

Where am I mistaken here? I'm pretty sure GameGO! is right. I must be misunderstanding something here.

Anyone?

No, the Neo does not have to be modded.

Plug in the RGB cable is all it takes.

SNK would be crazy to sell an RGB cable you had to mod your own system to use. <IMG SRC="smilies/tickled.gif" border="0"> Nah, it is RGB ready.

There are RGB cables made for almost every next gen system, super nes, genesis, PSX, PS2, Dreamcast, Saturn, Neo geo home/cd.

You can buy RGB cables for all those systems, there is no need to mod anything.

You can tell if a system can display RGB by simply looking at the pinout for the video port.

you don't need to mod your neo for RGB, but unless you're using SCART, the signal will be weak. you need to bypass the caps somehow on the board, to amplify the signal. i have no idea how to do this though...

uhm, no.
the rgb signal it outputs is at standard levels, no need to modify anything. in fact, those caps are part of the amplifying circuit. I get perfectly clear pic on both my atari rgb monitor and my scart tv.

You do have to modify the signal to work on arcade-style RGB monitors. Thao of MAS is the only person I know of that does this type of work. I have a MAS Systems RGB monitor at home with a modifed AES and it looks almost as good as the picture you get from a cabinet. When I hook up a stock AES to the monitor I get a very weak signal that looks awful.

my atari monitor is a standard rgb monitor from an atari computer, not an arcade one. the pic is perfectly fine.

Thanks to everyone who posted.

The reason I ask is I'm buying a HDTV with SVGA/VGA video in and using an XRGB-2 with it. Basically, from what I gather here (and from Lawerence of gamesx.com) I can play all of my systems except PC-FX in RGB on my new TV.

Thanks again.
