Ok, I finally got my brand new KOF2k MVS and I pop it in my 4 slot. Since It's in the second slot I press select to get to it and what happens? I get some warning screen! For some reason I can only play this game using my MVS settings! I have the 4x mod by jeff and one of the main reasons why I got the mod in the first place was so I can play the practice mode and allow easy 2P mode! Does anybody know how to get around this? This REALLY bites...

EDIT:
Ok, I went the search and found out that NeoTurfmasta had the same problem last year. They talked about it, but alas no ever said anything about a fix or anything. Is it giving me the red screen because my board isn't authentic, has anyone been able to play this game on their mvs in home mode? AUGHHHHHHHHH this SUCKKKS...been trying to get this game ever since it came out and look what happens...

I think it's some kind of protection on newer games...

Ok, so i'm dealing with not having my practice mode. Does anybody know if KOF2k1 is going to do the same thing? I'd hate to buy it and find out that it won't work at all!

Jeff, is there anyway to make the bios mod work with encrypted games as well? If I had a home bios and I put it in my mvs would it still function? I'm guessing with all of this encryption that all of the newer games are going to react the same way. This is gotta be fixed...

I just bought and received KOF 2K1 MVS and I have the 4X BIOS. Per your request, I decided to see if the game works in AES mode. Well, you will be glad to know it does... sort of. What I mean by sort of is the fact that when you watch the opening animation, at the end of the animation, it appears to want to "reset" the game and start the animation over. You can get by this simply by hitting start. There is also some weird grphical fuck ups you'll have to deal with. You can go into the option mode, but you can't read DICK of it. It takes you into the option mode which just happens to be... a blank screen. You can change your button config by hitting A when it first starts in option mode and from there, you are on your own as I have no clue what the other options are. Practice mode appears to be intact and fully operational.

The only other problem I have, and I hope the home version doesn't have this problem, is the screen when you hit start the first time. It's a crappy sized font in some shitty ass blue. It turns this annoying yellowish/orange when you highlight something. It's incredibly illegible and I'm playing on a 27" screen!

But again, you can get into Practice Mode and play in it as you normally would.

Hope this helps.

Thanx Slerch! Now i'll have to set my sights on getting KOF2k1. I still wish there were a way to get the practice mode on KOF2k but oh well. I've been thinking of trying to find a bootleg KOF2k just to see if it'll work like a regular cart but if it didn't it would be a TERRIBLE waste of money.

Thanx again!

No problem. Always glad to be of assistance when possible. Just remember, it's a HUGE pain in the ass to read some of the shit, but Practice Mode appeared to work normally.

I also don't think I'd go the bootleg route just to get practice mode. Hell, just put in a bizillion credits or turn on Free Play and play the SHIT out of it! Better than putting down $100+ on a stupid ass bootleg that may or may not work the way you want. I wouldn't imagine bootleggers copy the copy protection schemes though. Especially with the hack job that was done with MOTW boot(no endings).

Not my money though...

I am not too fimilar with Neo games in practice mode, but how much different is it then just playing against two player in MVS. I mean just hit 2P start and kick some booty... I know the guys die and in Practice they probably don't but atleast you can do some stuff... Maybe I am way off, what do I know :)

I just like practice mode because it makes it easier to practice and create new combos. Plus you can get infinite strikers, time, and power. On vs you don't get any of that. There needs to be a way to turn off the time limit... but that would probably be in the home options wouldn't it...
