I think all 3 are boots but I would like some second opinions please good people.

Also nothing to do with boots but I got a League Bowling cart and it has what looks like 2 headphone jacks built into the cart/board..? Is this normal?

Yep the first two are boots...PDP is on real SNK boards but not the correct ones for PDP (and its mx chips which SNK never used)...the kof01 may be legit (see post below).

Those headphone jacks are for linking multiple machines together. They use mono headphone jacks, if I recall correctly. One is for sending, one is for receiving.

Actually they are stereo and either port can be used for in or output.

That KOF 2001 _MAY_ actually be legit! I havent had much exposure to the 2001 carts before but I found this thread...

So the KOF 2k1 is legit you think?

That would be great news if it was because I bought a load of carts from someone and if it turns out only 2 were boots then I think I had a good deal.

Thanks for the info guys and if someone could confirm the KOF that would be grand!

Kof 2001 looks legit. Usually the P1 & P2 would be covered if they were eproms, but that's not always the case. You have the encrypted boards which are not generally used for boots.

PDP is actually a converted World Heroes 2.

That Puzzle Bobble is actually 'clean' considering some of the awful looking boards I've seen pics of.

And I'll add a +1 to KOF01 being legit. It was one of those weird releases.

That's how KOF 2001 comes. Notice how the NGH number, 262, is clearly marked on the chips. Boots basically never have the correct NGH number on any of the chips -- maybe if bootleggers had decided to put the numbers on their chips it would have left some of us bootleg-spotters slightly more confused.

9 month old thread here, but I just received a new KOF 2001 from Yaton last week. Threw me off due to there not being a label on the box, but I knew it was from the Eolith time period, and that speaks for itself. However, I didn't expect a Korean version of the game, and it immediately made me cautious. Plays in English, but stickers, flyers, and DIP sheet are all in Korean. It is legit, and looks exactly like the thread starter's boards, however mine has no eeproms on it:

Top board:

Bottom board:

Cart/case:

I definitely doubt mine is a boot, considering that I have yet to see a wide amount of kits that are bootlegged in whole, and I doubt the thread starter's cart is a boot either, due to the board being the exact same as mine. Besides, even old games that SNK made themselves, used some eeproms, though not on every board on every game.

Korea got KOF 2001 carts with no EPROMs? Interesting.

Puzzle Bobble : ugly boot
Puzzle de Pon : Ugly boot made with refurbished cart
KoF 2001 : Legit

All the KoF 2001 carts have no mention of SNK on the PCBs because they were made while Playmore and Eolith worked on KoF series instead of SNK.

Good luck finding a Puzzle Bobble cart that doesn't have tons of EPROMs or is wired like a kid's first electronics' project. I swear, at this point I don't even know what is legit and isn't for that cart. Some people suspect that the game was such a success that SNK/Taito themselves were converting less popular games into PB in order to meet the demand. Might be true, might just be that the bootleg market really is that big, but finding a non-EP'd Puzzle Bobble could drive you insane.

As for 2001, yeah... they're pretty much all that way. Wait until you see the daughter-card version of 2000! :) That's a crazy hack (with a FLASH-ROM daughter board attached to the top board). At least these carts used sockets for their EPROMs... So, on the off chance they do actually bit-rot, you can easily remove/replace them.
