I'm in the market for a Neo, probably going to go with a 4-slot. But which do you guys think is better, having the speakers below the marquee? Or the version where the speakers are all the way at the top? I've heard people say the version with the speakers at the top is better, but it makes more sense to me to have them below the marquee.

Your thoughts?

my old new cab had the speakers below the marq and it was crazy loud and clear. But I think the last owner but in new nice speakers. PLayed one still on location in Vancouver Washington all the time at red robin with speakers on top and its sounds fine too. But its so loud in there I could be wrong.

The only problem I have with the speakers above the marquee is that you tend to not realize how loud the cab is turned up if you are sitting at the cab -- everyone else in the house will notice though as a good portion of the sound travels right over your head. I don't have this problem with my goldie or Xeno cab both sets of speakers are about CP level. I only have this prob with the 4 slot, poor wife and kids :crying:

I prefer them below the marquee mostly becuase of the look and size of the cab. Something about the ver3 neo big red cabs has always looked very odd to me. I like the speakers next to the marquee like in my mvs-u4 but thats a little different being a candy style cab...puts them right at ear level and I think it looks prity nice. I havent realy noticed that much difference in sound personaly between the two locations on big reds...not enough to sway me one way or the other based on differences anyhow so I just go by what I like the look of and when I got a 4 slot cab picked up a ver1 as Im not a big fan of the cutouts and black bottom of the ver2 and dont like the look/size of the ver3 cabs.

My Big Red 4 Slot with the Speakers on the top of the marquee Cranks..but when playing it ..It sounds louder behind me while standing in front of it.
My wife says from sitting accross from the machine>can you lower it as it's really loud.yet I can't hear it as loud as the sound is going over my head..
This cab can really push the sound accross the room..

My two slot Big Red with the speakers under the marquee is more sound in your face..I can have both cabs set to the same volume level but my wife won't hear this one like the other..
When you stand in front of the cab the sound is more muffled as it's being send downward.

My two Slot Woody cab with the speakers at chest level ..basically hits you in the chest and feels deep sounding..Lots of Bass..it's a hollow cab like a big seaker box.
This is another sound cranker as the speakers are direected outward..but while playing the cab you block some of the sound.

My 4 slot Candy Cab with the speakers facing outward to the left and right sounds tinny.....No Bass(I guess because it's metal)

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem Chris. The speakers above the marquee just carry the sound, well, right above your head and all through the house. If you are sitting at the cab it's even worse as you are even lower, and I tend to always be hunched down on a stool while playing.
I really think the best speaker placement I've had on a cab yet is on my Xenophobe cab as the speakers are mounted at the back of the control panel area and angled about 33 degrees so the sound hits you in the face. Even at low volumes (15% on CPS2) you can still hear everything perfectly. This is also coming from a guy that's almost deaf in one ear, so take it for what it's worth.

I feel the same way. This is truly a shame though as I'm a hughe fan of the Rev 3 design, but out of the 4 slots the rev. 2 takes the cake having the best of both worlds design and speaker placement. I've been contemplating changing the speaker placement on one of my rev 3's just to see how it goes, but I hate sacrificing the integrity of the cab.
