Yeah the eay I understood it, the cards were more like ID cards that worked like a phone card...they had a personal identification of some sort and then it upload info to sammy using your id so they could keep scoring and ranking info and such but that they really didnt save anything onto them. But I have been able to find very little as well. About all I could find was this...although you may want to look into some of the games specifically to get more info...I know KoF and at least one of the guilty gear games had network support.
You are correct Pas.
They only work in Japan, you needed to have the atomiswave server setup in your arcade. Basically the card is your personal identifier. It doesn't save your score, however it acts as a key to identify that you were indeed the player on the cabinet. They were used merely for internet scoring. In a nut shell, at this time its not possible to utalize the internet ranking and card system in the home setting... that is unless someone creates an OS ranking server online. In theory it could be done, but who really cares lol. Its not like people really play fighters to get the highest score... shmups thats a different story.
This is the predecessor of the internet high score code. It cut the code out of the equation completely, most likely yielding higher success rates. In my experience, I personally couldn't be bothered to write down a code @ an arcade. Too much work lol. If I had a card however, I'd definitely use it every time I played.
