Seriously, its time we did something about the lying bastards and scammers on this site.

We will work as a team to bring scams to a halt.

THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE.

Please consider this and let us know.

This is important, and you have 2 very honest people willing to do this for the community.

I do feel they need to add another mod for the market forums. There needs to be someone who can weed through these people that keep having these fucked up deals. the new mod doesnt have to be me or Mike (but we WOULD do it)..but we need to get SOMEONE to take on this job.

Phillip

Agreed. NG market forum needs a change. As Phillip said, a new mod doesn't have to be him or Tonk, as long as someone is willing to take up this job.

I would be willing to do it... I'm on here 2 or 3 times a day and nothing pisses me off more than a scamming thief. But Phil and Mike would definitely be excellent for the job as well.

I would do it. I think ki atsushi or Mike would make excellent choices also. Please consider one of us ..or anyone else who would be willing to take on this job. What about SNKJorge .. he would also make an excellent choice.... but it's reached the point that we really could use one more person ... even if they are only regulated to the Market forums.

New members not allowed to create selling threads for a minimum of 200 post/6 months.

Current mods take action, not find it amusing, when very shady selling threads are pointed out.

There would be no need for another mod with just those two issues fixed.

All I know is, if either me or qube ever became a mod, Dark Andy would be fucked.

The last thread like this was locked for no reason...

I hope this one goes somewhere, the market forums have turned to shit lately, and with the large number of high-dollar transactions that take place there, there really needs to be a few people that constantly monitor that section.

Is there some sort of detrimental effect to adding mods to a forum that I'm not aware of?

I mean, it's not like we'd add two random schmucks we don't know much about, but we'd be adding two longtime members who have more than proved themselves to be trustworthy and honest people.

In certain cases, such as this one, the more the better I say.

I've done a lot of deals around here and having browsed the market forum lately, I have to say there's been a lot of shady stuff going on and thus I have been a bit hesitant in dealing with people I'm not 100% certain about (and those people are in the minority at this point.)

Either or both of these guys would do an excellent job of moderating the market forums.

Could an extra pair of hands do anything except help?

I Agree,Market place needs monitoring for shady people, because this is a great great community here of freindly people, but then there is one bad apple that just fucks us all up.

Work with me here. I'm trying to get a better understanding of what additional moderation would be able to do:

http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175711

So we get that sudden change between posts 15 and 16. What now? Ban him and cut off contact here (and possibly piss him off more so that, if there was even a chance that he'd reverse himself, he won't anymore)? [he refunded all]

Moving later in the thread, despite his ridiculous story, there are people willing to deal with him. Do you block that as well? Or do you simply say caveat emptor?

On a general scale:

Are you willing to deny people an opportunity to use the market? Will the cooling effect be worth it?

Exactly how are people supposed to prove themselves with transactions before you allow them to do larger deals?

What will prevent them from working that system? We already have numerous people who have scammed after significant, good records.

How controlled of an economy are you willing to tolerate? Too much and you will shut it down without trying to. Barriers to market entry will make it stagnate.

My own two cents (but I'm not 100% stuck to this, so please convince me otherwise)

Personally, I'm in favor of listing the personal information of anyone who scams a person on this website. They've forfeited any privacy when they scammed someone. Let their name be google-able with a thread about how much of a scamming idiot they really are (especially in job background searches).

Otherwise I need to be convinced there's a lot that can be done to prevent things. I'm not sure what can be done to keep scamming from happening other than vigilence on the part of buyers and sellers.

I don't enjoy the market forum because it's a market and from day one I knew there was going to be nonsense because money makes people stupid --too many people. That's why I avoid them.

I agree with Bobak here.

Anyone who'd deal with a member after that debacle then gets scammed is a dumbass. It's like someone whining about their $25 gold chain being fake after buying it from a homeless looking dude with a slew of them in a dirty jacket. Your neck is turning green due to your own stupidity.

Before I'd buy from anyone I always make sure they have a good rep, this is called common sense and as said, what's to prevent any established seller from pulling a quick one ?

I don't think it's the mod's job to moderate common sense and I also wouldn't be fond of a Market mod with a hairpin trigger and a paranoid mindframe of "guilty scammer until proven otherwise" breathing down every seller's throat 24/7.

I could seriously see that last point happening. Sellers being told "post pics of this, post pics of that"...right now....you waited to late...scammer...ban !!!
