how hard is it to make a CPSII system run with a supergun?

Real easy. Connect the Supergun JAMMA harness to the CPS2 A board, connect the B-board to the A-board, and turn on the supergun. It is that simple.

but doesn't the CPS have extra buttons?

If you are using a game that requires extra buttons, then you need a CPS2 kick harness (they are sold on ebay). However, they don't connect to your supergun. They connect directly from the CPS2 to the controller.

Don't the majority of CPSII games use the extra buttons, and what do the kick harnesses run?

I think most of the fighters do, but I am not sure about this. Plus, I don't know about the other non-fighters. Anyhow, kick harnesses can be found for pretty cheap.

Bill Burger is a jerk, but he sells them for $9.00:

Here is another one from New Era Videogames for $4.00:

Hmmm, so if I made some joystick controllers, I could just have A-D connect through the standard 15-pin and have the additional buttons connect through the kick harness? I'm sorry I am asking so many questions, but I have been thinking about a CPSII system for a while but don't want too much hassle.

If you are making some controllers, then yes, you have your standard pins through the JAMMA and the additional buttons through the kick harness. I should point out that you don't have to buy a kick harness. You can make your own, as I believe many members of this forum have. If you are going to make your controllers, it is no more difficult to make a kick harness.

I just read that the extra connector is configurable, is this done through menus built into the mobo?

I believe so, but I never had to do so, so before you quote me on it, you might want to post in the Tech Support forum to be sure.
