From what I understand, RGB is the way to go with the Neo. I know I can get a mod to hook up the system to RGB. Where can I get a good RGB monitor? I've seen that Massystems sells them, but they're $800+! I can get a sweet Sony Wega for that much. Or should I just get a Wega and hook up the Neo with S-video?

No matter what tv you get, you will never get as good as rgb. A cab monitor or one from mas is the best..............NEONUT

Isn't it funny how arcade cabs use RGB and not fucking composite comb-over bullshit.

LMFAO

basically all the old amiga and commodore monitors are RGB. They are also vga and RCA compatible too. Like the Amiga/Commodore 1080 or 1084. You can watch tv on the monitor or play rgb systems. They are the most reasonably proced RGB outfits.

They're not VGA compatible unless they're one of the newest Amiga monitors (i.e. sold within the last few years). Most Amiga's won't work with a VGA monitor without additional hardware (I think the Amiga 3000 is the only one that will).

Also, don't they require some sort of mod to do RGB? ISTR finding a website on this last summer.

Yes, 1080/1084 Amiga monitors do not support VGA.

The Neo will work on one of these monitors, the problem is most Neo's have poor RGB output, which would need an internal fix.

Also most Neo's require a circuit to separate the sync from the video signal, (my amiga monitor would not take the home or MVS neo's sync signal without it) when you get it to work it looks really nice, but these monitors are like 13" which is too small IMO.

There are several iterations of the Neo hardware, and they have varying quality in the composite and RGB out.

Well if you say so, sounds dodgy. No other console has that problem.

Good job I'm only into MVS then really isn't it.

Well, I've got about 6 cart systems here. I can plug them in one after the other, same cables, same monitor, same game.

Some look good, some don't.

Neither. For the RGB, I'm using the official Japanese RGB cable into an XRGB-2 (or 2 plus) upscan converter. It goes into a nice Trinitron monitor.

The XRGB-2 is a great device.

You should do some searches on the Neo. Jeff Kurtz has posted some good stuff from time to time about the video output. Some of the Neos actually have daughterboards added to improve video quality.

I forget now which ones have the best AV, and which have the best RGB.

edit: A link that touches on the differences. He mentions 2 revisions, but there are several more than that.

RGB is nice but I think the difference is marginal. For the money, you be better off buying a Sony Wega, and Monster S-Video cables for your modded Neo. You will get a very good picture that rivals most monitors.

Wasn't someone working on (or planning) a component video mod for the Neo?

It'd be great for us Americans who don't have easy access to RGB.

I did it to a system, the problem is since Neo's vary dramatically in RGB ouput, it would require adjustments to each Neo.

I thought all the older Neo's had the best RGB out, but I have one right now that was awfull, too dark and blurry.

I was able to mod that one to ouput RGB as good as a MVS board, but I am not sure if all models can be modded also.(haven't tried)

I am debating wether to get a presentation monitor with RGB or a Vega with component inputs, since my last monitor is dead.

And I do not know who else has tried it, but converting a Neo to component is quite a bit of work, at least the way I did it.
