I love P.O.W., it was the first SNK game I ever played. I spent many a quarter on that machine. Did they ever make and AES or MVS cart of it, or is it just on the NES??

I love that game as well

I'm afraid they didn't make an AES/MVS game of it because it was pre 1990 (before the cartridges) but if your lucky on ebay you can pick up a Jamma board

I remember playing POW on the NES. When you win it says "Congraturations" instead of "Conratulations". Being the stupid American, I didn't realize that there is no L in the Japanese language and that the R in Japan sounds similar to an L in English (as long as it's all Romanized Japanese, of course)

On a side note, in Bionic Commando for the NES, when you kill the last guy, the base defenses tell you that "This base will explod (not EXPLODE) in 60 seconds". My borthers and I make fun of that to this day!

imo POW is a very average game from SNK with low replay value. I sold my pcb some weeks ago, because of this reason.

While I agree that P.O.W. has limited replay value, its one of the few brawling-fighters to have soldiers in it rather than the proverbial street hoodlums or ex-police officers looking to rid their city of scum. I still play this thing like mad on MAME, though I wish I would've known you were selling the PCB :(

Anyhow, this would be a game to bring back out on the NEO just for the hell of it... and make it super bloody and what not.

I still love to get the M-16 and go around cracking people in the head with the butt! The Brass Knucks also make for some good fun! P.O.W. OWNS!!

In all my years of playing P.O.W. I have never beat it. It will haunt me until I do. Some day, when the planets align just right I will win the day. :D

I beat the Famicom version once baaack in the day, and I regularly beat the arcade version on my MAME emulator since it has unlimited continues... it's interesting to know that the main character you play (the blue guy) is named "Snake" in the arcade and is "Bart" in the Famicom version.

While the graphics and sound effects are indeed better, it's strange that P.O.W. is actually better on the Famicom for the simple reason that there are longer levels and something of a story... plus you get to actually fight a Hind-D gunship in level one. In the arcade version a Hind-D is seen in the background of Stage 2, but you never do battle with it... instead you keep fighting the smallbird AKA: Scorpion Gunship, that drops off soldiers to kill you periodically, but then get this... You are picked up at the end of the game of BY THE SAME Scorpion Gunship! Oh well I guess it's why I love P.O.W. because like Japanese Yakuza films from the 70's, it's all about fun and some things should be taken with a grain of salt... or a piece of sushi :)

GET THE M-16 AND KILL EVERYONE! I wonder why Snake never uses the M-208 Grenade Launcher though?

That game was HARD, but it was AWESOME. I've never beaten the game, but I sure loved it. You are not alone buddy.

Also, isn't there a way that some company or place can port the MVS version to the AES?

I agree with you for the arcade version, but the NES version is better in every way. You should pick it up. Good level design, good difficulty... good music... good game (I thought the graphics for being and NES game were pretty damn good too). There was a slight problem with collision detection though.

Mostly agreed. You are right, it didn't have the collision detection, or "play feel" that some people call it. Come to think of it, NES and Master System games never really had as good collision detection as the 16bit beat em ups did.

I liked things they added, like brass knuckle icons for power ups, and entering huts on the side for more fights, weapons, and power ups.

It's too bad they couldn't have added a 2nd player like in the arcade, but due to the sprite and memory limits of the NES, this wouldn't have worked.

A great game none-the-less.

P.O.W was the first SNK game I've every played also. My local movie theater had it, along with my other favorite brawler, Ninja Gaiden. It was this theater that eventually got the Neogeo 4-channel MVS and sold me on the neo later...

but yea POW fuckin rules. The graphics seem so clean and clear for some reason. The way the characters flash red when they are dying, and the audio in that game is awesome. The sound effects, gunshots, punch sounds... I've beaten the game 3 times with MAME and at least 6 times on NES.

The best game that SNK made for NES was definetly Guerilla War. I love this game! I have it complete too. But agree that P.O.W is a really cool game too.

Michael Yagami-

Well you know, this is not only a Neo-Geo forum but also an SNK forum just as well, right? Nobody here have any ill effects on looking back at old SNK games, right?

And Damn it... I still play Iron Tank, Guerilla War, and POW on YAME 0.38b on Pocket PC. And yes I own the real games.

You totally missed the joke.
