A few of those have been floating around for a few years now. They change hands pretty quickly as the novelty and wow factor wears off. Can't imagine playing KOF on it.

It's awesome, no doubt, but the fact is the PSP can run a perfect Neo CD emulator (with little to no loading!) That doesn't give you everything available on MVS though.

I can see it now....

Some dude sitting on an airplane, knocking his drink off the tray table with a MOTW cart sticking out of the back of the "portable" neo MVS...

Not practical at all.:oh_no:

I would still want it for my collection, but I would probably never play it.

What's the point then? Overpriced paperweight? It's not an SNK licensed product so other then homebrew there isn't much point past the wow factor.

yeah...not so sure about the practicality of the MVS...

but I checked out his website and looks like he makes a portable Dreamcast too....the lure of Ikaruga and Under Defeat on-the-go w/ simple tating ala the Lynx could be kinda cool.

But then again, can you play Dreamcast games on a PSP?

EDIT: thinking about it, it seems like it would be pretty impossible to play DC on a PSP...dont think the PSP is powerful enough...

The portable MVS would only be practical if it didn't have a screen, and instead had s-video outs and two AES plugs. That would be awesome, making an ultra compact arcade machine that I could easily take to my friend's houses. It seems like the guy who made the first one of these had the screen and the extra outputs.

On a side note, I would think that the PSP would be able to run the Dreamcast stuff, considering they have released multiple dreamcast titles on the PSP, including crazy taxi and Power stone collection.

That's a consolized MVS. Real easy project to do and will teach you a good bit in the process.

Don't you love it when Ebay sellers put up high reserve bids on their items which end up not selling. It looks nice in front, but I'd hate to have the cartridge stick out like it does.

Perfect AES/MVS emu is availabel too.

Also CPS2 and CPS1.

And recently SegaCD became emulated as well. :) Lunar & Snatcher rocks on PSP.

no the psp could not emulate the Dreamcast. Those games are remakes, they are not emulationg the dreamcast hardware to play on the PSP. As being once an active member of the GP32 scene, I can tell you the general rule of thumb was that a system could only be emulated properly if the hardware emulating it was at least 4x more powerful than the original hardware. But some systems are harder than others just based on the architecture, which is why even the GP32 running 166mhz still has problems emulating a system like the SNES properly.

Cant you OC the PSP to something like 330mhz or whatever? I remember seeing a OCing guide somewhere but that was long ago and I dont have a PSP anyway.

Plus, didnt the DC have 3 processors?

Well, here is a pic of the portable dreamcast the same guy built. i would never buy it...looks pretty awkward to play, but nonetheless still is interesting....

Well, there's MVSPSP, and that plays MVS and CD. Haven't had any compatibility issues so far.

How well does the MVS emulation run? I don't remember which one I used, but the last Neo cart emulator I tried to run on the PSP ran like crap with anything more advanced than Fatal Fury 2.

Xian: No need to overclock. The PSP has a 333 mhz processor, but the software is designed with 200 mhz in mind. Almost all homebrew has an option to switch it to 333. It sucks down the battery power a bit more, but it's not too bad.

Only game I noticed slowdown in was Strikers Plus. Still playable, just slower that the original cart played. Every other game I played ran at the proper speed and no sound sync issues.

Why do collector's do stupid things like pay $2000 for AES Metal Slug and $12500 for Kizuna Encounter AES? Cause they're collectors. Doesn't make much sense. I would never spend that much on a single cart, but I would be interested in something like this precisely because it is homemade and therefore not your average system.

I put an Want Ad in the SNK Wanted forum for one of these a while ago, and 8man responded that he had one of Ben Heck's, but it was not for sale.

I thought the DC ran on a single SH4 processor, with a PowerVR graphics chip. Could be wrong tho.

The Saturn, on the other hand, is still ridiculously hard to emulate because it has 2 main processors and about 5 different supporting chips.
