AES joystick problem

I have an old style AES joystick, and I can't access the hardware test menu when I turn the system on by holding B, C, and D. So I got to the Cross Hatch test screen by turning it on with nothing in the slots, and got to the I/O Check screen, and I found out that the problem is that it won't register C and D together at the same time. The buttons all work individually, and any other combination works fine, but when I hold C and D, it only registers C. Obviously, this is going to be a problem with certain games... Any ideas on what I can do to fix it?

I just tried that, it still doesn't work. I have another joystick that works fine, so I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the stick.

What joystick are you using and on what hardware? And what style joystick is working?

Both of my sticks are old style AES sticks, the ones with the rectangular base. And I'm using them on a consolized 2-slot, if that helps.

Does it also do it from the 2nd player socket?

Then thats pretty obvious that it's the controller. Open that bad boy up and take a look inside.

The sticks have giant solder points on the inside. If you have any solder ability, it's very easy to desolder, take apart and clean.
