Playchoice lightgun woes

i picked up a lightgun recently for my single monitor playchoice-10 and when you pull the trigger it makes the screen flash but does not register a hit. today out of curiosity i decided to give modding a NES zapper to work a shot. i get the same result with the NES gun as i do with the playchoice gun. so are the guns just broken or am i missing something?

ive also tried removing the tinted glass and adjusting the contrast/brightness no difference

I was going to read through the manual to see if it has a set-up explanation..
But I don't have the software in my computer to open up the manuals found here.

great link thanks, but strangely enough the manual seems to have detailed information on everything but the gun.

I'm thinking maybe the light gun games themselves came with some sort of instructions to set-up..
I'm not sure on how to go about seaching that info..

My brother inlaw has this same cab he's just never did anything with a light gun set-up
