my MV-2F acted out weirdly...

I was playing SS3 for about 15min and all of a sudden white screen popped out and stayed that way.

I turned my consolized MV-2F off and booted again, now all I could see was the very first garbage screen you would see when you boot up MVS. It just stayed still.

In an extremely depressing mood, I disconnected every cable and cord attached to it and examined board visually. Nothing was burned or damaged as far as I could tell.

I re-booted the board again, and it worked again for no apparent reason. :conf:

It is working fine now, but I am wondering it's getting close to its life cycle or something.

Could anyone tell what would cause this problem?

when it happened, I flipped dip 1 to see if it goes into setting mode, but nothing happened, it just stayed in that garbage screen. (I'm using component, it is the very first garbage screen you see even before it goes to green start-up screen)

Strangely enough, it is working just fine now :conf:
perfect picture and sound..

I was wondering if it was the well-known symptom before my board goes bad.

thanks.

Inspect the battery and the surrounding areas to make sure it's not leaking. Also if you haven't changed it before it's not a bad idea to change it.

thanks Xian Xi. You have always been a great help.

I actually removed the battery long time ago to prevent any battery related disaster.

It was not the dirty cart/slot issue either.
When I booted the board without any carts to see if it goes to the hatch screen, the garbage screen I mentioned earlier popped up and it was wobbling up and down as if it was out of sync. :spock:

like I said, the board is working fine now. oh god...I thought I was having a heart attack.

If I was to say what could be going on would be.
Maybe the power supply is taking a dip in power for some reason-getting overheated...it may be just getting too low in voltage and causing the board to do that.
I'm not sure what power supplies are used for the consolized units(?)

I'm using Jameco SC200.

I didn't use 18 gauge wires when I consolized it. It is slightly thinner than 18 gauge. (can't remember the exact size) maybe that contributes low voltage?

No that doesnt really matter much unless it is across a long distance like 10+ feet.

But are you placing the PSU on carpet? That can lead to heat build up and cause the power to drop as the temperature increases.

No my PSU is placed on a wooden surface.

I played LB for about an hour and the board worked just fine. maybe it was a temporary thing..

thanks for your help guys :)

I'll bet it was just a temporary thing. Interesting you removed your battery. I wouldn't do that because I like how it saves my settings.

Measure the 5 volts on the mobo, if low it could cause the symptoms you describe.

It's 4.88V :spock:

It's kinda low I guess..

Could it be significantly low enough to cause trouble?

YES.

Adjust it up to 5.05 or 5.1...

That low of a voltage can cause it to do strange things when you start doing some real heavy processing as it will only drop as the system more processing.

It's 4.88V with both carts in and 4.95V with only one cart in.

shoot, I'm using SC200 which means there's no way I can adjust voltage. :crying:

Could low voltage actually damage the board?
