I've got a consolized MVS-FZ1 with Unibios 2.2 I picked up a new Metal Slug 4 recently and am having issues with it. It routinely crashes during play, and will crash if left in attract mode in under two minutes. The cart isn't a boot. Is there some incompatibility issue that I'm not aware of, or do I just have a bad cart? Every other cart I have works fine.

Do you have any cheats activated?

Have you cleaned the slots and/or contacts?

Yes both the system and the cart are as clean as they ever will be. I have contact cleaner and anhydrous alcohol. Since the cart was new I even gave the contacts a little 0000 wool polishing.

I even tried favoring the cart fit left/right and the 'slightly out' method. Still does the same thing.

You might want to post the screenshot in the Unibios sticky thread so Raz can diagnose what the code is.

The only thing I can say is to try and clear the Back Up Ram-memory..Maybe it's currupt.(it's worth a shot)

I have an old Uni Bios chip in one of my 4 slot moboes..for years that sucker game me issues until I cleared the Back Up ram.

..........................
One thing about the MS4 carts..they come in a weird shell/case..
The new kit I had,the game would not go into the top of my smaller 4 slot mobo
The case was too fat,it wasn't made to close correctly in which was pressing on the boards real bad,too tight warping them..it felt real tight sliding into the mobo=no good.
This caused the cart to give me problems in all my mobos.
I had to do some shaving to the inside of the case to get it to close correctly..then it worked ok..

Thanks, I tried that too though I almost forgot about it. :)

I was kind of surprised by MS4s textured cart shell, but the fit is fine on my system.

Yeah, it's cheaper plastic. I've seen bootlegs that look the same, probably the same manufacturer.

Did you try reheating the solder joints on the P1 chip?

Any way to try the cart in another mobo..

Maybe a member (if) near you can test the game for you...

Do you have a standard Bios chip to install into the mobo to try the cart without the uni bios.?..

How do your other carts work on the consolized MVS-FZ1

I'm thinking maybe the power supply is low and.. maybe this game just is pulling more power causing a crash.

Have you measured the power supply voltage lately..

Don't have the original BIOS chip, or another board. All the other carts I have (~20 or so) work fine. Haven't meter tested the supply under load, but then again I haven't had any other weird issues. What carts would draw the most power? The ones with the most chips? I think the biggest ones I have are MS5 and Strikers.
