My first post! Man, it's tough to get a log on on this forum. :/
First, i owned a Neo Geo ages ago, as a kid, and sort of unloaded it when I was heading off to college. I'm new to this "scene" so I thought I'd ask a few basic questions...

First, what is the most desirable AES system to get? A "modded" US system, Japanese system, Korean (?!)...there's a lot of options, but no place that really lays down the differences.

Second, I've read a great deal about these "NGF" guys, and am leary of doing business with them. Does anyone know if they operate under a particular ebay alias? (As a side note, should Ebay be my avenue of purchase?)

I think that covers my first set of questions for the time being. Thanks in advance for your input.

(PS anyone know where I can get a Basara animated gif?)

hello kubikiri basara (what a kool handle name) - welcome first and foremost and we rare all confident that you'll enjoy your surfing time in this UBB (and please dont be a troll, hheheheh :D )

first, yes you'd be doing yourself a favor if you buy a MODDED neo geo AES system. best pic output coz of the s-video, then you still have the regular composite, then your RCA stereo outputs, you'll have almost arcade RGB quality video output and the rockin stereo tunes, plus with the developer debug bios installed, you'll squeeze every bit of extras like controlling number of lives, credits, censorship on or off and language, hidden characters, and some other developer "easter egg" goodies locked away in each neo geo AES cart, YES!

second, hhhhmmmmmmmmmmm, well myself the only one i can think of is an ebay handler "dkd4" and thats DION DAKIS ebay account (well if you followed along on all the NGF bashing thus far you'll know by now who this is). chimpmeister and big bear should know the rest of the other NGF ebay handlers and their known associatesm, hheheheh, good luck...

so far for used AES and/or MVS carts that are used (and i guess at this point most of them will be used), sadly ebay is a mainstream source. however you can look up 16-bit, winston goh, neoayato (laurent), mdgamesales for your neo geo aes/mvs cart purchases as well.

enjoy man and good luck with the neo hobby ventures! :D

Personally I would go for a Jap system, just because it is uncensored as standard.
I went for an English machine first of all, but have just purchased a Jap machine that I should have in the next week.
Then just go for the RGB scart output (is that not better than S-Video?).
I do not really believe in modding AES home machines as it seems to be along the lines as what NGF do as they deface carts, and so modding a console is certainly defacing it in some way, especially with the power lights people are now adding! Surely there is no need for them as you should know and can see if the system is turned on!
Anyway that is just my opinion and I know a lot of people have no problems about modding systems. The only mod I would consider is the debug bios on an english system as censorship sucks and stops the game bing played as it should.

I'd go for a modded US system. Techically, you could buy any system and send it to one of the technical experts on this board and they'll mod it to whatever you need for a reasonable price. But if you had the choice, I'd go with a modded US system (particularly because the normal RF-connection on a Neo is truly terrible).

i agree.
im normally against modding systems of any kind
but i say either have an MVS or
if you have an S-video TV get a modded NEO.
you ll understand if you ever play it alot.
i m begining to hate how my regular NEOGEO looks
on my TV.
its all about my MVS now.

S video and the rca jacks on a modded system are a dream come true ! Being able to use the bios chip to switch your cart to anything is TIGHT !

I'll vast my vote for the bios and mod route. With the bios the country origin of the AES doesn't matter sense you can change it at your whim.

The MVS route will get you cheaper carts, but they are a pain to get in and out of the single slot and you don't get the home functions (practice, survival, etc.)
