First up- hi all- This is my official first post at this esteemed forum.

I'm from london, england and have been a dedicated gamesplayer for many years now. I am a collector of fine and rare games and have a huge squaresoft collection as well as treasure (radiant silvergun etc) and other lovely curios. About two months ago i decided it was time to take the plunge into the depths of games collecting that is the neo geo. Its one of those things i've managed to put off for a while knowing the implications but neo seems to be getting more popular of late round these parts and i've been drawn in.

I bought my first game garou: MOTW a few weeks back and have been loving every minute of it.

Bearing in mind that i love motw what kof would people recomend i get first?

I am pretty sure i'll get hold of 98 but which should i get out of 99, 00 and 01?

Help much appreciated and thanks for having me...

Welcome to the boards

I love King of Fighters '94 - gets a bad rap but imo its good, then '98

I personally hate Garou - overpriced rubbish, if you love it there are better fighters out there for you to enjoy especially Fatal Fury Special

Good luck with your collection :)

Thanks guys- I collect aes

Garou is great imo- i'm a bit of an snk fighting novice (always been capcom on my saturn and dc thus far) so i found it very accessible and fun. I know thats not what lots of you guys look for in an snk fighting game but i'm still finding my feet...

btw- do the kof games have english language options throughout?

Depends on your Neo system - if its Jap it will be in Jap, if Us/Pal it will be in english

I started with KoF2K1, but that is just me. I wanted to start with the latest in the series, then work my way down the line.

No regrets, its a great game.

I don't think 94 or 95 do. But the rest 96-01 do have english language option

welcome to the world of NEOGEO.
MotW is fun. glad to hear you got it.
and dont say you like 2000 too loud if you do.
for some reason alot of people here dont like it.
i think its really the most faithful in gameplay
to 98 if you took out the strikers though. and is
a very good kof.
from there id go for 96 which is my fave.
or 98 if you want just up and up gameing.
you cant lose with either one i think.
and i love all the other kofs by the way too.
well. except 2001. i think thats the worst one personally.
have fun.
and dont get caught up in collecting everything.
thats when you stop having fun and the NEO becomes a chore.

Got it from cex retro in london- Really impressed with them lately- they got some new staff who seem to have their heads screwed on a lot more than most- I got it for £170 which is miles cheaper than anywhere else in the uk as far as i can see- raven have it for £299 and telegames...well- i won't even go there!

What's their Saturn and DC stuff like? There's a CEX where I live (Birmingham). They don't have neo geo, but do have some good import stuff.

I would buy KOF's in this order

98 (cheaper and one of the best)
2k1
96 (can't beat the bkgds)
97
95
94
99
2k

As you can see, I think 2k1 negates any need to buy the 99/2k versions, plus i think those are the two weakest kof anyway.

KOF94 was my first, and it will always have a special place in my heart. (Friends don't let friends do KOF2K1.)
