Killer Instinct pcb question

This may seem like a silly question, but what kind of luck do any of you have with Killer Instinct 1/2 pcb's? I ask because I've had 3, and all of them stopped working within minutes of having them. They all apparently failed for no particular reason either. I had a Killer Instinct 2 as well, and after turning it on and watching the attract screen, I turned it off and it never turned back on again. I've tried the flash cards in place of the hard drives - no luck there either. Its kinda nuts 'cause I've changed more CPS-3 batteries then I can count, and have never had a single problem with any of them...CPS-3, the supposed most sensitive arcade system there is. Any ideas?

Can you describe, "not working?" Does it just give you the bong and blue screen, or bong & no screen, or nothing at all? Does the screen go red and it say, "Danger?"

Have you checked the power supply? Maybe you are frying boards with a bad one.

I might have to agree with channelmaniac's suspicions. I have a dedicated KI cabinet that was converted to KI2 and it seems perfectly reliable. Note, I am pretty sure it has the original power supply that came with the cabinet. I would look there first.

Well, with my old KI 1 board, I remember getting a blank screen and hearing the "bong". On KI 2, I distinctly remember the "Danger". Btw I'm using an Egret II cab with the original PSU. Its measuring 5.00v on the money.

Maybe an odd question but does your cab have a 2 or 3 prong plug? If its a 2 prong have you grounded the cab?

If you got a bong with no blue screen, it may be a CPU problem. Does your CPU have the heat sink? If not, there may be loose legs on the CPU caused by somebody hitting the heat sink and breaking it off. See if you can press down on the CPU and see if the game works.

The red screen and Danger, is a PROM error if I recall correctly.

Oh, you may also want to bump up your voltage to 5.1. These boards are kind of hungry since they are powering a hard drive as well.

Common KI-KI2 problem:

The game will come up with a blue screen and it will remain blue if the hard drive is missing. If the screen turns red, you will hear "DANGER!!!" This indicates that either the Hard Disk and/or a ROM may be corrupt.
