I've been playing for almost 4 years now

Character name: Veovis
World: Leviathan
My main job is Summoner

Here is a picture of my character that I took when I gained the ability to summon Fenrir.

Used to.

Took a BRD and MNK to 75 and a BST to 65.

Always consider coming back, but then come to the conclusion that I'd rather be playing a bunch of different games than just one game non-stop.

Played during peak inflation times then came back again when everything dropped and ended up being loaded thanks to all the farming/NM hunting I did (was able to buy a pair of CC's for my MNK.)

Don't even know if my character is still around.

Probably been deleted by now since it's been a year since I last played.

I loved the game when I played it. I still have it for 360 and PC, but it's just too hardcore for me. I can't devote the time to it that I want, and the solo game is nonexistant too. I love partying, but I want to be able to solo on nights that I can't find a PT. Give me something to do..

I've been playing off and on since NA PC release. Had my characters wiped a couple times due to quitting. Here's my current:

Name: Dilemma
Main Job: Beastmaster (64)
Server: Leviathan

I'll look for you next time I'm online Veovis. I haven't played in about a month...I get burned out a lot heh. A friend of mine also plays on Leviathan, his name is Ciegrayndez.

edit:

GD if you want to solo start leveling Beastmaster. I've soloed from 1-64, and the worst levels of BST (1-35) have been made easier I hear due to some recent changes.

This thread actually got me to wondering how those new jobs are shaping up?

Last time I quit was right when the last new set were introduced and I barely even know about them let alone the newest ones (Dancer and Scholar I believe?)

Started playing this again with my wife a couple months ago. It's fun, and much more friendly for small parties or even solo now (we just duo, as I don't have the time or energy to search for groups), but sometimes I wonder why I got myself back into this kind of addiction when I was clean for so many years...

maybe I'm asking a stupid question, but i was really interested in getting the 360 version.
we have live, but I wasn't sure if you needed a playonline account as well.
if you go to their website it says nothing about it. But after reading the booklet in the game, it says you do.....

I just want a straight answer :(

You need to pay an extra monthly fee to SE.

$12.95 for the first character then $1.00 for each other after that.

Used to play on Shiva... had only 1 character (thus where i got my username from... which i'm much greatly appreciating right now.)

Played it for about 7 months, then quit for about 5 then started back up (character was and is still there... if i remember right SE doesn't delete characters if you leave) Anyways, got tired of playing it because for some unknown reason i could never get a party (even after waiting for 2 hours doing nothing but wondering around town, or the areas i couldn't get any exp from, with not even an invite from a group. Once you hit lvl 9 your screwed, unless you are in a party, or being power leveled.

I forgot to mention i have a 24 RDM Taru Taru...

If you asked me i'd only play it if the servers started getting more people or they made it so that every class could solo.

Played it from PS2 launch - Dec. 2005. Loved it for awhile, but burned myself out on it around lvl 50 when it was time to get the job specific equipment. Quit because I hated looking out the window and seeing the sun come up, another day wasted.

I admit I kind of miss it though, and am toying with the idea of starting again.

Well finally started playing again after almost 9 months I guess. Right back in the swing of things. Leveled my BST from 64 to 67 over the past week. Ordered Wings of the Goddess and it should be here today. Any of you Leviathan people still playing?

Don't have a 360, don't have a computer powerful enough to handle this, but I have a ps3 and recently there's a new feature which has become available for you to play ps2 hdd compatible games on the ps3. So I think that would include this. So I have a few questions: if I got this for ps2, which version do I need to buy to get the whole experience, if I could I'd like to buy the whole package if it's available. Can people on pc and 360 play with people on ps2? Is there voice support for the ps2 version? And what would the best character/class(?) be for a beginner like me? And will it even be possible for me to play solo, some people are saying you need to play in groups, but I want to be able to play on my own time (although if I'm paying for it, I intend to get my money's worth). Thanks.

You'll want to buy the Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2008. It includes the original game and all 4 expansions. All versions are available at places like Amazon.

Can people on pc and 360 play with people on ps2?

PC,360, and PS2 players all play together on the same servers.

Is there voice support for the ps2 version?

There is no voice support built into the game on any platform.

And what would the best character/class(?) be for a beginner like me?

All races can play every job well with the proper equipment, so don't worry about if you make a galka and then decide to be a mage. It will work you'll just have to work a little harder gear wise. It depends what kind of job you want to play really. If you're into mage jobs you'll want to level up white mage and black mage initially since they are used as sub jobs for most advanced mage jobs.

If you're into front line combat you'll want to start with warrior or monk.

And will it even be possible for me to play solo, some people are saying you need to play in groups, but I want to be able to play on my own time (although if I'm paying for it, I intend to get my money's worth). Thanks.

Most jobs can solo to some degree, but it will be very slow going after you reach lvl 15-20. The best soloers in the game are Beastmasters. They can solo from 1-75 better than any other job. I haven't joined a single party from 1-71 as beastmaster. It's nice being able to hop on and just play.

If you end up on Leviathan give me a /tell and I'll help you get started.

I'd suggest you don't play this, or MMORPGs at all.

Having been off this game for a year I've realized my love for it was dangerous.

Having been off this game for a year I've realized my love for it was dangerous.

I took another 7 month break shortly after my post in November, but came back to help my wife get the item needed for the level 70 cap quest... a month and a half later, I'm still playing.

It's fine, though; this game is so much more manageable now than it was 2~3 years ago. We NEVER have to make a party (Duo is an option at all levels, and the recent expansion introduced Campaign, which makes solo exp painless for those who have a limited play schedule). Additionally, there's such a variety of things to do now, that there's really no compulsion/need to grind hard or camp NMs day after day.

Long story short; I love this game.

I am kind of curious about the newest jobs.

How did Dancer and Scholar turn out?

I just grabbed this for the 360 (my PC is horribly outdated now.)

I'll give it a go again.

Did always want to take BST further.

All my old FFXI friends are either done or on WoW, so I don't know where to go.

Couple here are on Leviathon, so maybe there?

Yeah come to Levi. I'll give you a pearl for the BST linkshell i'm in.

edit: and yeah, it's amazing how much the game has changed. It's 10x better these days.

That'd be great, thanks.

Any particular Allegiance you guys operate from?

Going to be starting from scratch so it's all the same to me.

I'd like to play tonight but who knows how long this update will take.

I'll post in here when I get started up.

Probably too late, but you should be able to get your old character back. Unless you delete it and create a new character on top of it, it will stay in their system for years.

As for the new jobs...

Dancer has kind of turned into a super sub for a lot of solo activities. Scholar... they're in demand for the road to 75, but I hear a lot of complaining about their usefullness at endgame. It's also a good subjob for whm, at least, at level 70+.

My last character was still there, but he was sans gil and anything else (I gave it all away); plus, he was only Rank 5 and on Fairy.

I'd have done a World Transfer for the hell of it but $25?

I'm not cheap but that's asking a bit much.

I don't mind starting over.

In a way, it's kind of fun.

Just read up on the new jobs too.

DNC looks awesome.

Plus, I guess it's a kickass BST sub which is great news since I'm going BST.

But I may even give the job a shot on its own.

SCH looked kind of dull.

Nothing about it seemed the least bit interesting.

I am trying to get this on ebay for cheap (looking at a few auctions - I want the ps2 version). Just wondering if anyone has bought a used copy of the Vana'diel Collection 2008 for ps2. I'm wondering if you get a free 30 day subscription as a new sign up, or is there a serial number in the case that would only provide one of these free trial's per unit. So if I bought it used, I'd be out of luck. That's why I want to find a brand new one (in any case I'd prefer brand new), but if I can't find one, I might as well just pick it up at gamestop or something. Anyone know?
