Hi all,

DISCLAIMER** MY SSV MVS cart is a boot from excellentcom. Please read on though.

I'm having a sound issue with Samurai Shodown 5 for MVS on my big red 4 slot cab. It will usually play sound for about a minute or two then sound cuts out. I hear a quick sound like the intro MVS boot up sound, then nothing.

Is this a known issue with this boot? I'd really like to play this game more, and I'd be willing to pay for an original if it's a boot issue, but I don't want to pay even more for a real MVS cart and it still not work. Can anyone confirm this should work on 4 slots?

Thanks mucho.

Gatcha~

UPDATE** Pictures... Damn big pictures.. Linked instead of inline because of size. Not the best quality, but maybe these will help.

I have never had a problem with my legit copies of SS5 or SS5S on my 4slot before. I would guess that its a boot issue...alot of boots seem to have graphical and sound issues from what I have been told. It could also be an incompatability issue with other carts but I doubt it. You can check though buy removing all carts except it and see if it continues. If it does and this is the only cart that does it is 99.999% a boot issue.

Thanks for the response Pas. I have tried removing all carts except this cart. I've also tried another cart from excellentcom and had the exact same issue. If anyone else can confirm this is most likely a boot issue, I'll look at buying an original.

Does it only play the intro jingle or does it play sound when you are playing?

If there is no sound during the attract mode make sure its activated in your soft dips.

Sound plays for a couple of minutes just fine. Effects and music work great when I first start a match.. Then it just stops and goes silent after some random amount of time. I kept trying to reproduce it to find an exact "sound" that caused it (like perhaps some particular move sound) but it seems to be random.

I've tried messing with attract mode to no avail.

Samurai Shodown 5 for MVS

Probably dirty cart connectors..

I have a boot of the game.I bought it sold as legit for $50.00...the case and label look legit but someone switched out the boards(not from excellentcom)..I got shafted with this one..
.It gave me sound problems at first until I cleaned the connections.

The only problem I have with the game is that after I beat everyone using any fighter through the one player game it has no endings..the screen just goes blank..
Otherwise it works great..

Thanks mucho for the responses all.

I don't think it's the cap as other carts don't do the same thing in the board.

The cart itself is spotless, so I don't think it's the connectors. I've tried two of them and it's the same result for both. I think I might gamble and spend a bit on the original if others here confirm it works OK on a 4slot.

Thanks again,
G~

edit** Anyone know of a reasonable place or seller for a legit cart?

I'd say its a cap issue as well.. I've heard others having the same prob with one cart with a sound prob and not others.

Its prob just that, that cart stresses the board more then other carts.. its the newest game.

I'd say its that or the P/S also being stressed more playing this game more then others. Might want to test the P/S while runing using a Multimeter.

I guess I have a bit of reading to do. Can anybody point me to a reference for replacing said "cap"? I'll start looking at Hardmvs (The only reference I know of). I'll check the power supply as well. Can anyone recommend a replacement power supply on the cheap if that's the cause?

Thanks,
G~

Question..

How many other MVS carts do you have..?
Do you have any of sound problems with any of them..(like the SSVS?

I don't think this is nothing more then a BOOT game issue.....Boots are crap and succeptiable to creating problems, having problems.

If you were having problems with more games, legit games then Id opt for it to be a MVS-mother board/cap/power supply problem..

I had an seller sell me a boot copy of Spin Master many years ago(old topic here somewhere)..it had sound issues in my 4 slot cab..the sound would go out randomly..in which just drove me nuts.
I wasn't offered a refund after complaining that he sold me a boot, plus it being problematic..but a replacement cart was offered inwhich I requested a legit cart.
He sent me a second spinmaster cart but it also was a boot..the boot board chip layout was totally different then the first boot.
I figured ok,different boot this one should work ok..But the sound would also go out on this one randomly too.

This was at a time when Spinmaster was a bit hard to get..I eventually found an original that gives me no problems in my 4 slot.

..
One thing I never tried back then when having problems with any cart was clearing the back-up ram memory.

You may want to try that.

Right now I have a Aero Fighters 2 boot in my two slot big red..
It works fine.
But after you beat the game and it demos through the sound goes out.

I've also tried another cart from excellentcom
Was it the same game-also a boot or?

Easy to try that clearing memory idea..

How about just opening up the cart and post some pictures.. We can tell you right away if its a boot or not.

I've tried clearing memory already, that didn't work.
My cart is certainly a boot, excellentcom sold it to me for $40 with the title (not authentic) or some such listed.

I really don't have any other sound issues on any of my other carts, so I assume it's just that this guy is a boot.

Any chance of getting a refund=faulty cart..

I'd like to see some pictures(or scan) of the boards myself..I can host them for you if you send them to me..

you might have a bad trace, solder spot......and.I'd like to compare the boards to my own boot..

Otherwise..My only other conclusion is that the boards are too tight in the carts case,,something very possible with a boot..the carts boards may be warping and not making good contact in the motherboard.

with the cab off pull the cart out of the mobo slightly whereas a different part of the games conectors are making contact with the motherboard.

you could try to loosen the screws on the cart slightly to give the carts boards more wobble/play...or try the boards inside the motherboard outside the carts case...making sure to put them in the motherboard the same way they go in the cart.

Updated with images.

See links in the first post.

I opened up the cart and checked the spacers, they seemed to look OK. I also tried moving the cart around on all slots, by itself, not inserting all the way, etc.. No difference. I can usually get into the second bout and the sound craps out.

Holy crap,I've never seen a boot like that....half boards..

You know,I actually have good luck with MX chip boots(well in full size boards.
It's the eprom boots that give me issues.

I hosted one of the pictures.

Ofcouse you could post here that your looking for 1 in the wanted section.

EDIT: heh.. Well i'm confused as what game your talking about SSV or SSVS.. SSV is alot cheaper then SSVS at $150 at AS.
