Help with a 4-Slot MVS and MAS Super Nova

I'm having a problem with a 4-Slot Neo Geo MVS system and my MAS Super Nova. I've plugged the unit into the Jamma harness no problem, but I'm not sure where to plug in the auxilory connection so that I can hopefully switch between games with a button press.

Now for the more depressing stuff... There is no sound with the unit, and when I click on the first dip switch to see if I can turn the sound on, the unit won't allow me to switch it from "Music OFF". I do get beeps from the unit, however, when I test the center, left, and right sound tests. I presently have dip switches 7 on for free play and 1 on occasion for testing.

Third, since I can't switch between games yet with a button press, I waited for it to switch games on it's own after the short demo. However, instead of switching games, the unit rebooted and started to re-demo the game in the first slot again.

Thanks for any and all assistance. =)

Later.

hmmmm....

I used to have a supernova and a 2 slot. I always had to wait for the games to switch through before I could play the 2nd one. I don't know if there is any way around it.

The auxillary connector's purpose is to allow the use of all 6 buttons on the joysticks. (for games like street fighter 2)

Is there no sound coming from the bottom of the unit? I can't remember which dip switch turns it on and off but you should be able to check www.google.com and find that out. Hopefully, it's not your board.

Sorry, not much help

Pin 26 of the JAMMA harness (aka button 5) is the cartridge select line. If you conmnect it on the solder side, it will count the other way. Useful for 4 or 6 slots :)

for sound, the reason you are getting the beeps and noth other sound is because the MVS-2, MVS-4 and MVS-6 are stereo ONLY and cannot be converted to monophonic. The MVS-1 slot series had stereo/mono switches and the later MV1B, MV1C and MVS1FZ were all monophonic, period.

To wire up the speakers correctly, you will need 2 8 ohm speakers. The positive of the speaker sides go to pins 10 and l, (the regular speaker outputs). The negative sides both go to ground.

Good luck.

Are you sure about that? I have an MVS 4-slot board and I get the mono sound with my supergun. Nothing but the standard JAMMA edge. I always thought that if you were to use the JAMMA edge, you had to flip a switch on the baord from STEREO to MONO. Course I've only seen that on a 1-slot, never looked for it on a 4-slot since it worked on mine first try.

As for the game-switching button, I was in the same place you were. Then I discovered that my NeoCD controller hooks right into the MVS board, and the SELECT button changes between games. Saved me from having to wire another button to switch games. Not that it would have been difficult or anything.

Rigel: Any regular sound in a mono wired cabinet with a stereo board would result in that you hear only the stereo phase difference, resulting in a ghostly type of sound.

and yup, am sure. Take a guess where I enjoyed 5 years in a fantastic job :)

Oh, um... OK. I don't know much about all this stuff, just from what I've learned on my own. :p

I knew the Neo Geo CD I got a while ago would someday be good for more than just a test of patience. =) I got the system switching between games fine now with the Neo Geo CD controllers that you recommended, thanks!

Now here's the interesting part... I get sound when I start my games now with the Neo Geo CD controllers?!? However, before the game starts, there is no sound and I can't turn it on. If I unplug the controllers (system turned off of course) I don't get any sound in the game. I haven't tried plugging in seperate speakers yet, but I thought that was rather interesting that the controllers for some reason would push the system into giving me sound at least during game play.

As far as using a Neo Geo CD controller to sellect games goes, does this apply to all 4 slot boards or is it like the 1 slot where some versions have it and some don't? Also, where do you plug it in at on the board? I have been talking to hardMVS about wiring a button into the jamma harness via the #26 slot and one of the ground slots. That should work also If you don't have access to a NGCD control pad. :D

As far as I know, all versions of the 4-slot boards have the NeoGeo controller ports (it's not just the CD controllers, the normal Neo AES systems uses the same ports). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
There's 2 black ports on the MVS board that say "player1" and "player2" and those are them. Shaped just like the controller ports.

As for getting the harness wired for a game select button, I'll be doing this once I get my order from Bob. Thanks to hardMVS for the tip-off of course. Soon I'll have a plethora of JAMMA harnesses that are fully MVS compatable.
