So, a long time ago, I had a friend who was very skilled at making cables and all that jazz. I bought a Commodore 1084S, and played my MegaDrive on it, loved every second of using that whole pixel-perfect razor-sharp thing. The years went by, I eventually sold that stuff...

...now I'm dying to get some old-school RGB love happenin'.

What are my options here? I'd love to have a 20" screen, but I just have no fooking clue where to begin. Is it even possible to source an old Japanese TV with these hookups? I would love to just use off-the-shelf stuff with legit RGB cables, but if I can also source someone reliable to whip me up some cables for a specific monitor that would rock too.

Looking mainly to play Super Famicom/MegaDrive/Neo stuff.

Buy an old RGB 15 Khz monitor if you want to play Genesis/SNES/NeoGeo. You'd rather buy a 15-31 khz one if you want to also play the dreamcast though:

A guy I know in America uses a SCART to component transcoder (?) and he hacked it to add audio connections. Apparently it works really well, then you can use a modern TV and European-spec RGB SCART cables... his name is David. J and he frequents several SEGA forums.

Here is a plan....

Get yourself a brand new Arcade monitor.... Tri Sync if you want.

Then build an enclosure around it

OR:

Buy an old RCA TV... YOu know the ones with all the wood and shit? Take out old tube and put your new CRT in.....

Viola.

ive got 2 of those TVs... holy shit thats a brilliant idea! too bad ive already got a totally sweet sony PVM 20 inch RGB monitor, but i suppose if i ever wanna go with a bigger size RGB monitor that would be a good plan!
its worth doing for the l33t factor alone.

A shame my console player system is still fully functional. I'd already be gutting it to throw that monitor in.
