I thought there was already a topic here about it but I guess not... which surprises me considering how much love there is for Alpha 2 on this forum!

GGPO is by far the best optimized netcode for fighting games, ever. It uses a modified Final Burn Alpha emulator and provides netplay with only 1 frame of lag, no matter where in the world your opponent is (to compensate for high pings though, the emulator kicks in autoframeskip, so the gameplay is a little more choppy). When playing people in your town or state, it's almost indistinguishable from playing offline. It's really just that good. New features have been added in recent versions too, like the option to watch other people playing their matches live. And the newest feature is the GGPO Dojo, which contains streamable/downloadable replays of every match played on the server (well almost every, there's a little bug with it right now). And the program's still in an alpha state, and has nowhere to go but up...
Sounds too good to be true? Well, here's the major drawback - at the moment only two games are supported: Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 1. Only a handful of games are being supported at the moment so that Ponder (the developer) can focus on getting more features working and ironing out the bugs before adding more games. Despite this, there are promises of more games being added, and rumor has it that an SNK game will be added very soon for testing purposes too - most likely King of Fighters '98. Online lag-free KoF '98... doesn't that just get you wet?
So yeah, more of you guys need to get up in this if you aren't already. And then I can destroy you all with Zangief.
