This site look retro which is nice, but it also looks old.

Old as in ancient!

Plain HTML pages? FRAMES? TABLES? I mean COM'ON!! No body that lazy! :spock:

I would like to make some mockup themes for the site just for fun, is that ok?

We could make a "Best re-design of Neo-Geo.com" contest or something like that.

All designers / artists are welcome to participate!

Discuss ..

Keeping things old school and simple is good.

Just look at what happened to Legos.

They use to be simple and all the pieces could always work together no matter what you were building.

Now you've kits loaded with oddball pieces and shit that only work with one thing.

:oh_no:

Good idea!

This isn't a bad idea at all. I do think the site could use a fresh look and has needed one for a long time. Even Ben Herman of SNK Playmore USA suggested to me that Neo-Geo.com needs a new design. New design would need to be user friendly (easy to navigate, and easy on the eyes).

If this does evolve into a contest then the winner would receive an appropriate prize of a super fast Mtron SSD. Surely those of you who are into web design will be interested in upgrading your laptop or desktop with the fastest disk drive on the planet (blows away WD's Raptor, no more defragmenting, no seek times, instant system boots, superior reliability, et cetera).

Let me know if any more designers would be interested in said contest & prize, if there's interest then we'll have this contest.

Does an entry consist of an actual working webpage, or is a mockup okay?

Wow, really? I'll start/sticky closed threads in News & Rumors, Unrelated and Creative with links to this thread so people will know to give feedback.

In my personal opinion: I want to see the same color scheme. White text on dark blue or black is what makes this forum home. Making it "modern" doesn't mean changing the general look, just making it look sharper.

I like this colour scheme also

but I don't really visit the rest of this site anyway

thats because, the reviews and collections pages need sorting out damnit!

I want to put my collection pic up soon, but I know it'll take ages to get there, or not at all :emb:

agreed.
I only visit the forums, the other sections are lacking. Some stuff like reviews is understanding since it's all donated fan reviews, but stuff like the master list could have more detail for games.

IMO, I think we could start by making mockup designs of the website to reduce time, like creating screenshots of the main sections of the site (MAINPAGE, NEWS, DIRECTORY, GUIDES, SHOP, LINKS, CONTACT)

And we can go from there! :glee:

Does that mean we can stop using this old ass vBulletin and switch to PHPBB?

So things don't get misconstrued, I know Mouse_Master has a solid idea of how to reorganize the actual content generation of the rest of the website --this is about the look.

then if it's only about the look leave it as it is

the reason why this board is basically the only one I post on, is because of the layout/colors. That's what makes ng.com unique and I might say, addicting

what's really needed is a major re-organization
I don't like the way the various forums are placed

No.

This is the worst idea since Dash Radio.

Please leave this site alone, its like a goddamned monument to the mid-late 90s when the internet wasn't just another vehicle for commercial gain.

I'll probably leave if its redesigned.

The best thing about this site are the beveled IE style borders and gold low quality post/reply buttons.

#1. I like this site as it is now. You are talking to an entire forum full of people stuck in the past who have resisted change in video games with nearly every fiber of their being. Consider your audience. It's comfortable and familiar here.

#2. Ben Hermann has about zero room to be suggesting n-g needs an update. This is not meant as a slam on SNKP USA in general, as I think they've been doing a very good job the past couple of years, but their website looks like complete garbage. I mean, that is an ugly website. Look at it. Browse through it for 5 minutes. Ugly.

Browse what, exactly?
their few pages of screenshots?
The fact that their "story" links often have "comming soon" pages?
The only useful information comes from their press releases.

Lord knows the official SNKP forums are a joke.
The whole SNKP site is like a balloon filled with hot air.
Lots of flash, but little substance, and lots of speculations and dreaming if you bother reading.

Sure, I'm happy with what games are out. Just not with their track records of delays and epic cancellations (ReBout! *shakes fist at sky*).

I digress though. I'm venting. But the rant still stands, dargnarnit.
